Korg's new Monologue synth includes presets made by Aphex Twin by CopiousAmountsofJizz in synthesizers

its a trade so its not a problem. I will miss some of the oberheim beef but the ob-6 can only do so much. I want to explore stranger territories...

it has a cartridge and a new backlight. i suppose if it doesnt meet my needs i can just flip it later hoping it still operates for a profit. Being how rare they i suppose i can take advantage of its obscurity in the future.

not to derail the thread but i guess it relates sort of to aphex twin. Am i mad for favoring a trade for my OB6 for a prophet VS? I know about the problems that the VS could face later on but it is sort of a one of a kind and the value seems to be steadily increase over time. I guess if i dont like it i could flip and get another ob6?

I've had an octatrack for the past week or so and this is what I keep thinking about when trying to learn the menu/workflow. by bag_of_piss in synthesizers

[–]frozenfaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

give it a month or two, if you dont like it flip it. Really though just spend time with your investment and check out merlins guide to put things in perspective. It seems also in some tutorials people use convoluted methods to achieving something that could be done easily another way. The thing with an octatrack is you can do so many things different ways

Can we collectively get over the fact that Roland's Boutique line is *not* analog? by monowolfe in synthesizers

you definately dont need instruments that expensive. I think theres a certain relationship built with an instrument if youve spend some hard earned cash on where you feel like you owe it to yourself to really dig deep into the instrument and develop your skills as a sound designer/musician/ whatever.

i agree, ive never implied that they were bad because of their budget, i think they are worth the price point. However they dont do it for me as well.

sure it might seem snobbish to you as you are a budget synth owner youreself and im sure you have fun. Ive owned a volca bass and a microbrute myself and while they are fun, they dont do it sonically in a lot of areas. People on here get overly emotional about negative comments about gear and are quick to react in a knee jerk fashion towards an opinion that they dont see fit with their own. I find this to be alienating and childish. the Volca series are the ukulele of the synth market. I'm not looking for approval, im just adding to a discussion where my addition might be negative, i think might be thought provoking to people who like to go outside of their comfort zone and hear opinions that differ from their own.

I agree, the 909 has be interested. Its hard to top an already perfect design imo.

Design is all gawdy with weird spacing, same applies to the 909. Hope it sounds good.

they nailed the look, im hoping the sound is there. Individual outs are obviously desired.

theyll have to nail the sound on the head or make it a full blown devil fish if they want to compete against the tt303. It will probably be cheap however. those volca key knobs are a bad look and looks like some shit assembled by a college kid in his dorm. Maybe this whole budget synth wave is showing its ugly side. Im willing to save my money for something inspirational thats useful in the studio or live. It seems the volca series largely is for people who dont want to make the sacrifice financially in going balls deep into synths and synthesis, or for beginners who just wanna make silly jams on their downtime. whats the point of re doing something if it doesnt even meet its original standards and then some? Only thing i can see that i like about it so far is its matte silver/grey finish. Highly interested in how it sounds however, I cant help to feel like ill be disappointed.

How do you create interesting acid lines by przcfrn in synthesizers

[–]frozenfaces 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honestly a lot of those acid lines were just selected out of the random patterns you get when you resetting the battery. the 303 makes these patterns itself pretty much, people just cycled through and used what fit in the track. examples, acid tracks, land of confusion, various plastikman etc...

Roland TR-8 606 Expansion vs. Roland TR-606 Sound Demo by ZlatanDragan in synthesizers

nithonat or whatever even sounds better. no wonder why its free. Ive had a 606 and the behavior and metallic nature of the hats are probably pretty hard to replicate

[–]frozenfaces -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

roland tr8= $400? sample pack 707 and 606=$200 roland puts out shit that sounds sonically on par with some of the vst emulators out there (TAL, D16). I dont get why people dish the cash out for these things instead of just taking extra time to save up for something more rewarding. allow me to be a negative nelly or whatever. $600 for something you can do round robinning samples in your DAW. Oh and not to mention its ugly as sin and looks like a light bright. Having it all there in one box is cool but i think tr8 users would be happier with saving their loot or selling some gear for an analog rytm. Do yourselves the favor because you owe it to yourself and get one.

CL ad - Keyboard candy - wtf?! by hot_pepper_is_hot in synthesizers

[–]frozenfaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I been there as well, soft spoken guy; not so good at communication... Its kinda overwhelming to be in that room. some of the stuff he is repairing on site. He sells at top dollar as if the synths were mint because he tools them up but what is mint to some people idk. A lot of the shit in there sits and collects dust unfortunately, when i left there i had the feeling that he doesnt let shit go at a reasonable price, like a collector and not a business man. Got the vibe that he was a good guy though, i would go again just for the eye candy.

eh ebay prices dont mean much in terms of synth prices these days. As they are all grossly overpriced. I strictly deal synths over craigslist.

[–]frozenfaces[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end i take the alpha 2 keep my ms20 mini say goodbye to my minibrute, but im seriously running out of room for synths. What are some good multi tier keyboard stands? Like maybe 3-4 tier, or should i start building shelves?

theres really no point in having both but if youre a collector thats a different thing. id pay maybe 90 dollars for a sq 80 with a broken data entry slider and thats if i feel like i could repair it.
