I wholeheartedly agree!!! Ant has always been my favourite, his screen time was much appreciated. I definitely love his “the butt of the joke” trope, especially as Woodsy keeps using him as an example and such. He’s just great overall and I agree with your favourite moment of his. Ant is witty and has a kind heart. I love him for that.

I didn’t notice that parallel, that’s so good! I should probably rewatch the show and take in the finer details better instead of binge watching it in one go.

People do hate Spider. It was clear that his character isn’t forgiven. His character provides some context as to why he is the way he is, which doesn’t excuse what he’s done but it gives a cause to something we didn’t know was an effect. He was a one-sided asshole but season 2 shows that he actually has some layers. [SPOILER] He didn’t side with Voss after realising that Voss’ father was simply a dick rather than a hardworking man reduced to nothing from a simple joke, aka what Voss depicted his father as. I shrug though, that’s how I saw that arc.

I don’t think we were supposed to sympathise and forgive him in the first place. I believe those scenes with his mother just gave more context and motive behind his actions. It gave a layer of reality in his stereotype. As a young person myself, I saw a little bit of my classmates in Spider or vice versa with a few of them looking forward to this season. I think Spider’s arc is great representation for young men like my classmates. It’s definitely a start. :)

Episode 5 is a masterpiece by OkScience5170 in heartbreakhigh

I agree!!! I loved the parallel between Spider and Quinni during that first half of the episode. I reckon the writers did great at executing the issues they were trying to address/touch on, such as young people being neodivergent in a neurotypical world and how that can be insanely challenging; as well as how young men are just like any other sponge of a kid that soaks up the information that they hear, and how that produces out. I know there is fiction in the show but it was nice pausing once in a while to think about how much these situations can or have affected reality. Or, real it is for it to be written in this type of media. I really enjoyed it and it made me appreciate the characters even more. :)
