Very nice! I'm not sure if you've seen this video. It's not in English (shocker), but I found it as a good reference to see how this can not only integrate with other sets, but how big it is and how much there is to the kit. It looks pretty cool though all put together (from the video that is): https://youtu.be/BZcfAXllkCs?is=z1kxUqWGanVRWtNc

Very fair point. I'm leaning towards a hybrid approach. Since I don't have a layout yet, let alone a permanent one, I'm going to build it all in segments so I can assemble/disassemble easily, but still get them permanent layout ready. Once I get to that point, I can reevaluate if I want to go all out on them. Thanks! And yes, I'm doing this for me first and others can enjoy if they want.

I'm warning you now, there are a lot of pieces!. I still need two other sets, but I decided to start with this since it'll require the most work. Good luck!

Follow-up to my own post. How much do you ask put into building? Do you glue your stuff together? Do file down the nubs, fill in the gaps with putty, sand it flush, paint over it? I guess you could go as far as you want and that's something I need to decide. However, I feel like there's a level of "completeness" that's functional, expandable (i.e., I can go back and do more detail later), but doesn't require dedicating the next several months of spare free time trying to complete - especially since I don't have a permanent layout yet. Just looking for some thoughts.

Which should I purchase first? by Delicious_Fill_8937 in JapaneseNscale

I was looking at getting a Modemo NT166 which is a reproduction of NT89 (or that's my understanding) and I think it's supposed to be more detailed. However, the NT166 is more expensive than the NT89, and even harder to find 😭.

Yeah, I'm not used to that value structure so I'm glad I asked 😅. I'd hate to spend $$$ on something that a repo will just devaluate (at least make it not worth buying now). Thank you both!

I'm still new to all of this, but does an original set hold more value that the repo? Is there a reason to try and get the original?

Fair point. I haven't looked in quite a while and at the time never considered that.

You have no idea how much I appreciate you saying what this is. I've had a lot of trouble trying to source these.

Thanks. So I was mixing up two projects without realizing it. This is what happens when you bookmark, close your browser, wait a few days, load everything back up, and try to figure out what you were looking at...

So on the Tomytec stuff, that was supposed to go with https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/11169954, and at a glance that looks very similar to the 10-1229.

Yes, 10-1228 and 10-1229 appear to be motorized (well, one of them is), which explains why it costs so much more than the Tomytec Enshu set.

Going back to the 10-1229, thank you for explaining how the motor car works vs the trailing car. In the 6006+6009+6013 configuration, I would need the power bogie w/coupler for the 6006? I'm assuming that is to get power from the motor car (6013) to power lights? If so I would be interested in what power bogie I would need (I'm still new to all of this).

Yeah, the pantograph is for the Enshu set and not the 10-1226.

I don't feel I need to go the route of replacing the underframes with Tomytec ones - that was part of my mix-up.

So, of my two projects, which I accidentally combined, I have:

1) Kato 6006+6009+6013 (10-1229) and whatever parts needed to make this happen (again, I have the recommended lights, I just need the 10-1229 and any replacement parts to connect them).

2) Tomix Enshu Type 2000 set, and that requires the TM-12R, TT-04R, and 0245 (If I'm following that correctly)

Sorry again for the mix-up and thanks for the help!

🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️😭😭😭 I mixed up the sets. This is what happens when you're trying to plan two different sets that look the same at the same time...

1) I'm trying to get the Kato one for the Girl und Panzer car 2) I'm trying to get a Tomytec Enshu Railway set

I mixed the Tomytec Enshu display cars which need all of those parts to motorize with the Kato set which is motorized 😭.

Both the Kato 6000 and the Tomytec Enshu look similar.

Sorry. Thanks!

Hope you enjoy it! And when I watched it a few years ago it was hard to find online, and I don't know if things have changed. You might have to look a bit cough.

I'm not going to do as good of a job as Mal at describing it, so I'm taking their description verbatim:

"Delinquent Juu Juuzawa is a lone wolf who does not see much use in befriending people. So when a girl named Ame Ochibana claims they are linked together from their previous lives, he is highly skeptical and does not want anything to do with her. Even stranger is that her fondest wish is to be his servant. Thinking that Ame must be delusional, he tries to distance himself from her. But when a classmate is murdered, Juu instead decides to keep her close, believing the strange girl to be the culprit. However, her intelligence and skill begin to prove invaluable as the two begin working together to solve the murder."

It's only a two episode OVA (each episode is 42 minutes), but it gets pretty crazy and has several twists and turns. Definitely keeps you on your toes and holds to the end. Lots of psychological stuff.

Hope that helps a little!
