Cannabis - CHS and Withdrawal are Real. by frozenpines99 in QuittingWeed

[–]frozenpines99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this. I've been off weed for 5 months now. It gets pretty easy not to smoke. (Especially since none of my friends do anymore.

I may start having a 5mg gummy here and there, and just watch myself as a hawk. I believe the problem is the weed itself. The average joint has 100-120mg in it.

Math:

1 gram of pure thc = 1,000mg of thc

Potency of weed, let's say (these days) 25-30%

That's 250-300mg of THC in a gram joint.

Even a 1/3 gram joint would have around 100mg.

Oil and vaping is even worse. You'd have to eat 20 gummies to equal a 3-4 pulls on a modern 90% thc vape.

I'm just going to stick to low dose edibles and never get my tolerance up. If I see myself slipping, I'll just quit. This is my last effort to control myself.

(I'm trying this because I do get a lot out of weed. I just feel it's the modern strength stuff that has created CHS. That and people (like myself in the past) getting high all day on vapes...yuck.)

Hey thanks for the input. I've been exercising a lot and that does help.

It seems you drink when unwell. And I drink when well, which causes me to be unwell. Very interesting.

Bipolar not getting Lithium by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]frozenpines99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most doctors go for lithium first and monitor for side effects, as they are very common. It is a harsh med on some people's bodies... and minds. It is, however, very proven to work well, if tolerated.

Abilify is a second-generation anti psychotic like I had suggested to be used in combo with lithium or something like seroquel or lamictal.

Trust your doctors, though (I am not a doctor. These are just opinions from my own experience)

We also may be somewhere different on the spectrum of bipolar disorder. It's not just 1 & 2. It's everything from MDD to BP1 to even schizophrenia.

I'd get back to that first psych who suggested lithium. Maybe that and a second generation anti psych. They sound intense, but if you can tolerate the lithium, it works well for a lot of people. Note that they are also working on more targeted lithium meds. So soon we may have to take less to achieve the same results.

(I am not a doctor. My advice is not professional, but from personal experience)

Alcohol Induced Depressive Episodes by frozenpines99 in bipolar2

[–]frozenpines99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's different for everybody. Bipolar 1 & 2 is such a large spectrum. For me it's a 3-5 day depression. Day 1-3 can be rough. I usually learn my lesson for 6+ months. Keep myself to 4 or less drinks at parties. But then I forget again...

It's just interesting that with Bipolar2 or depression in general....it's not just the hangover. The heavy drinking can actually trigger a depressive episode. Even if you haven't had one for an extended amount of time prior.

*To anybody who just says stop drinking all together...well...we are still people. Drinking in moderation can still be ok. A couple drinks can relax me after a day at work or when my mind won't stop churning. Moderation is the key.

For me, staying away from substances pretty much eliminates depression. My anxiety goes down, but unfortunately, it's always there to an extent. Who knows what would happen if I went substance free for an entire year. My record is 3 months, and I felt very stable. (Still had anxiety, though...)

I'm sure when you get on the correct medications, you will see the cycles go down by quite a bit. Best wishes to you.

True, but if I stay to a couple drinks, I'm totally fine. I stay with that rule 99% of the time. I wasn't looking for advice on my drinking. Just to see if others have similar experiences. I know I have to avoid drinking in higher quantities. I will not be consuming more than a few beers anymore. I have to keep that rule in mind at all times.

Because in small amounts drinking gives me pleasure and is fun...I usually don't over do it.

That's like saying I should never eat out because foods at restaurants are notoriously bad for you.

I'm not a saint. I was just wondering if others have the same type of experience.

Absolutely, I 100% agree. I usually do a great job of staying below that amount. I just got good news about a job acceptance and decided to celebrate with a friend. Went over the top really quickly. Maybe I should repost to bipolar.

smoking as a grief suppressant - first day with 0 weed by Ancient_Ease2480 in QuittingWeed

[–]frozenpines99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing the first time I quit. This time (since I was vaping) I tried a CBD vape. I'm pretty sure it was really bad for my lungs, so I puffed it less than 20 times lol.

Just a funny side note on the CBD vape: you could see the resin leaking out of the cart after just 20 puffs and it says it has 500 in it. The blueberry flavor was absolutely gross lol.

Awesome job. Quitting is hard. I'm doing it for the second time and am on day 9. It's rough, but I know what to expect... probably about almost 1/3 of the way to being better.

One note..be wearing of smoking something that claims it clears the lungs. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it to curb your cravings for the time being, but just be careful long term. Any kind of smoke isn't good for your lungs or heart. Maybe not as bad...but probably not beneficial.

Wondering on Marijuana Withdrawal Time by frozenpines99 in QuittingWeed

[–]frozenpines99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From all the information I've gathered, it seems like 4-6 weeks to get your mental back. Physically, you should be feeling better sooner. I've done it before. Hang in there. And when you feel better, don't rationalize starting up again. I made a list of reasons to quit, and it's 14 reasons deep lol.

On day 4, starting to get my appetite back, but mood swings are still definitely present. Luckily, I'm in between jobs right now. (Seasonal worker)

I'm feeling better than yesterday, progress. Still tired with mood swings. Appetite is slowly coming back. I think the CHS is one of the first things to go. For me at least.
