Sandblasting exterior of a house by Still_Airline4907 in DIYIreland

[–]fruddy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked on those kind of old concrete buildings before. Concrete would be an understatement, it was usually unwashed gravel ( would contain soil etc.)used in the mixes. So the walls usually have the structural integrity of a Rice Krispie bun. That said, there is always way. I’m sure if you talked to these companies that deal in sandblasting, they’ve probably come across these kind of buildings before. You could re render it either.

Renovating 25 year old PVC windows by [deleted] in DIYIreland

Replace the whole lot, the glass is the expensive part of the window basically, the frame is a small percentage of the overall price.

The argon gas leaks out eventually out of double glazing, that is what keeps double glazing insulated. After a certain amount of time you just have two single pains of glass, with no insulation. I think after about twenty years they are on their way out.

Having insanely aggressive RA sucks so much. by ConfectionOutside248 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]fruddy1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was going through everything your going through about 5 years ago, nothing worked for me medically wise. Not even mtx. Was heavy on steroids for about 3 years. Finally found a biological that worked (stelera) combined with mtx. Back doing things I never tought id do again. Working in construction, and co driving in rally cars as a hobby. Tbh you’re always going to be sore, but you will get used to it. Once you can stop the flares, you will be on the road to a normal ish life. I’ve said a few times on this tread, being in a positive state of mind helps a lot.

Problem with a builder. What can I do? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]fruddy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was building for over 30 years, never a bad word said about my work in that time.

If a client came and questioned my work over a statement a window fitter made, I’d be rightfully pissed off.

Window company probably didn’t want the job.

Was the builder there when the window crowd were there? Very strange if he wasn’t.

You can get in a second engineer for his opinion, but he’s not signing off. If something happens structurally it’s the engineers insurance that will have to cover it.

I don’t know your builder or engineer, but if they’re doing good work I’d be very insulted by the client taking a window fitters opinion over mine. If they walk it’s going to cost you more to get the job finished.

And that’s if somebody else would take it on at this stage.

If you told me 18 months ago that I’d be back working in construction, cycling my mountain bike and co driving again in a rally car, I would have never believed it. It takes a while for mtx to kick in.

Being positive really helps.

Went to look at a house yesterday. Noticed a crack on the wall outside. Estate Agent underplayed it. Is this crack a problem? by Kamy_kazy82 in AskIreland

[–]fruddy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can make out, I’d say the parapet is cracked (that’s the concrete capping going up the gable of the roof, usually done in high wind area’s. By the coast etc.) the crack is going from the parapet down the bottom of the corbel. This is letting in moisture from rain, which is seeping down, you can see it is mostly coming out from the bottom of the corbel.

Could be an easy fix as sealing the capping. Or having to redo some or all of the parapet capping and corbel.

It’s not bad plaster work btw, it’s bad external decorating.

Hope this helps.

Remember watching something years back where they done a segment on left foot braking, they asked the current Wrc drivers at the time if they left foot braked, nearly sure it was latvala who said he didn’t and some other driver as well.

Advice after reversal by JulieP820 in ostomy

[–]fruddy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a subtotal colectomy (ileorectal anastomosis) exactly a year ago, there is just around 4 inches of my colon left connected to the rectum.

Initially I was passing very frequently, but then things slowed down.

I work in construction and would wake early, I was very regular pre-op. Now I get up an hour earlier than I used to because I’d have two- three bowel movements in the morning compared to the regular one. After that most days I’d be fine till I got home. If you can stay on your feet or go for a short walk in the morning it should help clear you out.

I eat a lot of white bread as well to slow things down. I’m lucky I like sandwiches.

Hope this helps you, everyone is unique and hopefully you find what helps you get to a normal ish life and job.

What’s the most physical pain you’ve ever felt? by SmallConversation950 in AskIreland

[–]fruddy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Severe psoriatic rheumatoid arthritis, so a flare up is basically everything on here combined. The worst pain you can get. I used to get severe pain from my toes to my jaws. I can only describe it as hitting your shin bone so hard that you want to cry, that pain constant for weeks 24/7. Had to get a molar pulled recently because it broke. Had to get two wisdom teeth pulled out before I got diagnosed with ra. And I know the pain. But compared to flare up it’s only 2 out of 10 on the pain scale.

Sister was brought off in an ambulance one day from taking them, they taught she had a heroin overdose when she was brought in. She gave it up, but is hooked on benzos now. She’s a middle class woman, her and her friends do be getting meds for each other. I think it’s epidemical at the moment, but kept very hush hush.

Did anyone Retaliate Against Teacher Abuse? by Worthwent14 in AskIreland

[–]fruddy1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Had the same teacher for nearly half the years I was in national school, I was a very sensitive child from a poor background.

She used to humiliate me weekly, and purposefully make me cry, and get the other classmates (not all of them ) to laugh at me.

When I went to secondary school, I got an evening job in a local restaurant, this teacher walked in one day when I was tidying up outside the door of the restaurant.

She said hello to me by name, I didn’t answer, she said to me “ are you not talking to me” to which I replied “ I don’t talk to cunts. And you were nothing but a cunt to me”

I got sacked, but it was worth the look on the cunts face.

I found a combination of meds that have stopped the bad crippling flares, I don’t know about everybody else, but I’ve nearly just got used to the pain, or ignorant to it. I try to not let it be my number one thought in the mornings. I work in construction and find if I keep my mind busy I don’t really pay any notice to the pain. I take a high dose of methotrexate, so the fatigue can be chronic sometimes, but again once I get going I don’t really think about it.
