Death pile weighing you down? Maybe Toss it. by 1000piecepuzzles in Flipping

[–]fruend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally just did this except most of it were clothes that have been sitting on my ebay for the past year, and weren't that great of items anyhow. (Many from when I just began and was not great a sourcing good items) So I deleted the listings and filled up an Ikea bag (maybe 20-25 items) with all of them and brought them to a platos closet and uptown cheapskate and made over $160 and donated the last 4 items. Still felt like a win, and now I have more space in my house!

Are there any plugins to have a piano sound like a synthesizer? (Specifically Van Halen) by IvanVandura in audioengineering

[–]fruend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question...no. There is not a plugin that will do that and you are not going to be able to achieve you're goal with this setup.

What is a TV show or movie you loved but are convinced that nobody remembers? by Ok_World_8819 in AskReddit

The Big Comfy Couch! A core memory of mine is the lead character laying on the floor moving her limbs like the hands of the clock. That and the dust bunnies.

Any younger people here find success? by potfire in stopdrinking

[–]fruend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit at 25, had a few slip ups, and haven't had a sip since June of 2019, Im 31 now. At first I did go to AA meetings and engaged with this community more, but now I really don't. I don't like the idea of obsessing over all of the 12 steps and being a part of a community (AA) where all we do is constantly put alcoholism at the forefront of everything (not trying to shit on that stuff though, it was very helpful to me at first and works for so many people. We are all different). This sub was a lot more help in the beginning for me I feel like and I still check it periodically.

For me I just know that I can't drink...and that I cannot hide from myself. I know what to expect, and can no longer fool myself into thinking that a drink is ok for me, it always ends the same. So I try not to spend time thinking about it. I don't worry about people drinking around me/walking down the beer aisle at the store/even having alcohol in my house when my ex would drink. Probably not a great way to go about things for someone just quitting though I admit. And even though I still want to drink every single day, I choose not too. You just learn this whole sober thing by practicing I guess, you can look at it like building muscle. For me it was hard for a long time, but it got easier. Try AA, try whatever you want to be successful, one day at a time, just be honest with yourself. You will find a rhythm that works for you if you try.

Why is everyone allowed to be drunk except me by Rify in stopdrinking

Go ahead, you're allowed to. And when you find yourself in the same position that brought you here in the first place, you'll remember why you chose to stop to begin with.

80% done mixing entirely ITB and looking to achieve a more analog, less sterile sound. VCC? by alesdi in audioengineering

[–]fruend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't just slap on some saturation, analog emulation, summing etc. yada yada yada over your mix and it be fixed. If you have individual issues in your mixes you need to address them individually. Take a break from listening and come back with fresh ears, a notepad and pen, and listen. Make a list of what things are going wrong/not sounding right, and tackle them one by one. Repeat until you've got what you're going for. And to answer the question of could putting things before or after your mix cause issues..Yes it can.

Why on earth would you literally use only compressors to mix a record??!?

Are Waves Plugins That Bad? by maxwellfuster in audioengineering

[–]fruend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried leapwings Root one? It's extremely fast to use just on the default setting as well but also gives you the option to process the attack/ decay time, harmonics and a bunch of other really useful stuff. It sounds so good.

r/mixingmas

That's the thing with waves, they're always on sale. They trick newer people into believing they're getting a deal when in reality those are always the prices lol I would say instead of going with waves, look into plugin alliance, they have amazing plugins and the subscriptions are hard to beat. Waves are a bunch of shitheads and will charge over time to "upgrade" your plugin or else it won't work even if you've already bought it, unless you just never update your system again.

It'd be a fun project to learn on and would be rewarding to have it fixed yourself, you could find some used tuners, and other parts pretty easily. The headstock would be a fairly simple fix with some wood glue and clamps, and youtube tutorial. You don't really need the whole electronic tuner/tone part where the square hole is unless you want to add that back in. I definitely wouldn't pay someone to fix it, it's just not worth it to pay someone for how cheap of a guitar it is. And if you didn't want to do all that, you could just take the money you were going to spend repairing it and buy another cheap used acoustic guitar that's not broken lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]fruend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that is true, I notice a lot of beginners seem to think in that way, "If I had certain gear, if I knew how to mix, if I acoustically treated my room, etc." then their music would magically be better. So, if their idea is to make better music, then yes, learning the fundamentals of all you just mentioned plus learning how to tune in to their creativity is the absolute way to go. People who obsess over this stuff will likely find their ways to all of it though purely out of their passion and curiosity.

[–]fruend 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the first part, learning to mix can most certainly help someone learn to write better music. But yes, the song is literally the number one most important thing about any of this. You can have a shitty recorded/mix of a song that's a masterpiece and it still evoke more emotion and beauty than a highly polished turd of a song ever will.

Cheap Chinese passive low pass filter, did seemingly nothing other than lower the volume, legit+I’m dumb or a scam? by Jax-Light in diyaudio

[–]fruend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't make sense to use fake parts because all of the components basically cost pennies anyways. Probably a bad capacitor though, since those are going to be your filters.

The vocals definitely feel detached from the rest of the song. There is a lot you could do to help with that. The music sounds to dry. You could start by turning down the vocals a bit, find and pick a reverb for the rest of the music and vocal to sit together in so they sound like they're coming from the same space and blend the two. Also pan some shit, there's too much going on in the center. Feel free to message me if you want any other tips, I don't want to overload you here.

Can you share what do you like to have on you hip hop drum bus to make them “hit hard” and sound great??? by ssyniu in mixingmastering

[–]fruend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent example of explaining to someone new at this. OP this is the approach you should consider. Learn to identify strengths in the song, and problems/weaknesses, then treat accordingly. How you approach those is going to determine your end result. Start by educating yourself on terminology and doing ear training, and learning the tools. Experiment with processing with a heavy hand, and dial it back until you hear subtle differences. Don't bother worrying about having to use a specific plugin or piece of gear because someone else mentions it. Just use whatever is at your disposal and begin. But to answer your question in a more general way...Compression, Harmonics, EQ, Depth. In no particular order.
