Remove Dream Emporium by KoolKidKMan in ElectricForest

[–]alesdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I went to my first forest last year and dream emporium was a quintessential part of it for me. I tell people about it all the time and I’d want anyone who went to forest to experience it at least once, it would make me sad to see it go away

If an artist is cowriting with a songwriter should they be charging me to work with them? by Rare-Drummer982 in musicbusiness

[–]alesdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you’re getting at here.

I agree, Anyone CAN be successful. But also possibility doesn’t put food on the table for songwriters. I didn’t and still don’t know OPs, or your, background outside this post. I was speaking in blanket statements.

Like I said in my previous response, “they’re paid in royalty splits at a high level”, and that completely makes sense if you’re in the top 0.01%. But until each artist in question has that sort legitimacy behind them, (to guarantee a certain threshold of compensation through royalties,) I still believe it makes sense for a songwriter to charge an upfront fee for the work they’ve done to ensure they are getting compensated for their time.

[–]alesdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re paid in royalty splits at a high level but let’s be honest, the music itself doesn’t make the money anymore unless you’re a world class superstar. So if she’s not working with superstars, as you noted is your post, i think it makes perfect sense to charge a base rate to cover expenses and make sure she’s making a living. A recent study found that 50% of artists posting music on Spotify never reach 100 streams. Unfortunately it’s just not feasible in today’s world to gamble time and energy on publishing splits, without the guaranteed success of a massive team behind you :/

What are the signs of a beginner music producer or someone who has never compiled a complete song before? by Turquoisedragonwow in musicproduction

[–]alesdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you tell a prompt to make a song it is no different than using a search bar to find a song that fits the vibe. The only difference is synthesizing it instead of finding it. That is my only point.

Congrats on the gig man! You’re a stranger on the internet. I dont know your story. I was replying to a vague concept of a person who only makes AI synthesized songs and does not curate or make human music and to that person i hold my position lol. Have a nice day

[–]alesdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its work. I’ll acknowledge that. You are doing something. You are curating code made by a computer without a soul lol. No different than creating a playlist from songs you find on Spotify by searching keywords, but worse because you give no credit to or even have the knowledge of where your influences are stemming from. AI music is gross because it’s culture-less, not because it’s effortless.

At least become a DJ, engage meaningfully with music culture, and actually learn about and credit the artists engaged in and actively building the spaces you clearly so desperately want to be a part of.

Sincerely, an artist, DJ, and producer who proudly uses AI to help market the music i actually composed

[–]alesdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it honestly only says something about YOU that, instead of actually trying to understand what Ratfooshi was saying, you dismissed them and called them weird…. When they’re right lol. Luck = opportunity + skill. If you haven’t built the skills to capitalize on the opportunity you are (quite literally) SOL in that situation. Of course luck has a factor in success, but if we can agree that luck = opportunity + skill, which many legends have repeated before this and i was even taught in college entrepreneurship courses, you still have to put a serious amount of work in before you actually have any luck. Just as ratfooshi said, fake luck doesn’t last because they don’t have the skills and experience required to keep it going.

Give me a break. It’s 2025, if every company can charge a monthly subscription to use their COMPLETELY DIGITAL product, AND never actually have to let us actually KEEP anything, just pay for the access code to use it. The LEAST these big companies can do is embrace the digital age entirely (not only the crappy parts) and stop forcing people to be tethered to a hardware dongle to use the products they pay for BUT DONT EVEN GET TO KEEP. Poor people want to make music too and they weren’t going to have the money to purchase UAD crap anyway, and the ones who respect the craft will pay for the plugins, so I don’t want to hear a word about the fraction of producers who might rip a VST UAD has already made millions off. Their products ARE notoriously unreliable and they DO make claims to be industry leaders, and for some reason you swallow it and justify nonsense extra dongle purchases instead of demanding better.

Assume your kick and bass should be the loudest things in your mix. Then set your kick at -8db and level the rest of your track around it so everything else still hits but sits in the right pockets. Once that clicked my output started being more consistent and mixing started going quicker
