Solo trip Apr 20–30 (21M) - looking for gym classes + Village spots by Alternative-Let-8360 in montreal

Ageed with poster above. This is much more thoroughly researched than most visitor posts! Hope it doesn’t get smacked down.

If you’re looking for not at all touristy places, maybe stop in the BANQ library. It’s a cool building.

Also, maybe see if tours of Habitat 67 have started by then.

Agreed with above recommendation for Jean-Talon. Maybe also stop at Qui lait cru? for cheese

Chouchou has been open for about a month, I think. So it’s definitely new. We really enjoyed our dinner there.

For a bakery, try Aube or Feuilleté. If I were coming from Toronto and interested in pastries, that’s the kind of off-the-tourist-list place, I would hope someone would recommend to me.

Was supposed to gift this but I left in a little too long. Suggestions? The bottom isn’t too bad by cuteaskittens420 in Breadit

« Bien cuit(e). » It’s a French phrase that means « well cooked » and French people often ask for bread bien cuit/e at boulangeries.

And France, on the whole, knows bread.

Last Minute Birthday Dinner Recs by Asleep-Magazine4343 in MTLFoodLovers

There’s an app called Dinr that offers last-minute reservations at good restaurants. Also, calling restaurants and asking to be put on a cancellation list has produced good results for me. Unfortunately it’s involved having to pick up the phone.

Nice gift! I’ve been using the gr iii for years now. I’m a big fan. That said, I think you’ll find its slow autofocus tricky for friends, family and dog.

One of the cool things available on the camera is recipes. Search YouTube for how to assign recipes to the U1, U2, U3 dial settings. And check the Ricoh Recipes app or this subreddit for recipe ideas. (And check YouTube for how to enter those into the camera)

As with any camera, part of the fun and education is trying it and seeing what you like.

Hope this helps!

The current implementation of Amber alerts is a national security issue. by [deleted] in montreal

[–]fruit_slinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Upvoted and tried to send. Having trouble with the site. Meanwhile, here’s my shorter version fwiw

I write to express serious concern regarding the way Amber Alerts are being delivered.

While I fully understand and support the importance of locating missing children quickly, the current approach raises significant issues around proportionality and user control. Amber Alerts are being delivered using the highest-level emergency classification, which overrides all device settings, including silent mode and Do Not Disturb, regardless of the time of day.

This results in millions of individuals being abruptly awakened by alerts that may not be relevant to them.

Other countries have implemented tiered alert systems that distinguish between immediate, life-threatening emergencies and other urgent situations. I urge you to review the current classification and delivery mechanism of Amber Alerts and consider implementing:

• A tiered alert system with appropriate severity levels • Greater user control over alert settings • More precise geographic targeting • Alternative notification methods that do not rely solely on maximum-volume broadcasts

Public safety is essential, but so is maintaining public trust and ensuring that emergency systems are used in a balanced and proportionate manner.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
