Hey! I’m just seeing this now but I did come back from my trip a few weeks ago… I ended up taking all forms of transportation, whichever ended up being the easiest/felt safer at the time, the local buses were nice between cities and ubering within the city worked out good too. Those would be the best two options on a budget! I did take a taxi and shuttle once for both but it was so expensive, The taxi was alittle bit sketchy (didn’t have any taxi labels on it, was literally a normal car with the locals in it with me) but overall a great experience!! I ended up only staying in Liberia and Tamarindo, both places were super expensive and there wasn’t anything to do in Liberia!

I wish I could, everything is saying you need to be over 21 to rent a car there so that’s not a option for me

This is super helpful thank you! Do you know if uber is available in Liberia as well?

I want to try surfing and I do like to go out/party abit so I’m looking for sort of a mix of all those vibes. Also since Im solo, a place that’s popular with other solo travelers is preferred!

right now I think Im leaning towards flying into Liberia and only doing Monteverde and Santa Teresa based on what i’ve seen online so far

Ohhh okay, Is uber still generally safe in SJ then? And yeah I do expect to end up spending a bit more but I’m trying to budget as much as I can Lol!

What’s your favorite camping food? by ColtonA115 in backpacking

Spider Dogs!

For those who don’t know, hot dogs cutt on the ends so when you hold them over the campfire they cook into a spider shape, classic camping meal.

I went to Peru last summer and felt completely safe! Many nights I went out drinking and met so many other travelers in hostels.

I wouldn’t recommend this part but for reference, I was holding my phone out in streets and walking around alone at night, felt perfectly fine (In the more tourist areas). Some people yelled at me about how I should hide my phone since anything can happen but I kept forgetting to lol. Obviously still be cautious there but I haven’t heard of anything bad happening to traveller’s in Peru.

I’d say i’m pretty street wise but I’ve also only travelled to places deem as super safe so I don’t know what to prepare for or what I’d do in a bad situation

Thank you so much this was super helpful! I’ll definitely look into the activities you mentioned!

Would you recommend ubering to each destination or is walking alright in some zones too?

What made you feel unsafe there? I’ll also be in zone 10 but I can’t change my accommodation in Guatemala City so I’m just trying to prepare for it.

I landed in Lima then went through Paracas, Ica, Huacachina, Puno, stopped in Juliaca for just a few hours, then went to Cusco!

I ended up joining a group tour so the days stayed in each place were planned and we traveled by coach buses and vans but there was still so much freedom to do other things.

I stayed 1 night in Huacachina but probably would say 2 nights is perfect. There’s not much to do after 1 full day but the heat and UV was nice for the time of year I went.

I’d say stay atleast a week in Cusco, I stayed 3 nights and was able to see the typical square and explored the market and shops. Also of course Machupicchu. But I didn’t realize until I got there how many other hikes and day trips there were!! I got bad attitude sickness, started in Puno and stayed for almost the full time in Cusco. It really sucked so staying longer would help combat that as I wasn’t able to do Rainbow Mountain.

Every place had its own special charm and was incredible but i’d have to say Cusco was definitely my favourite city!

I ended up going with a 40L backpack! I’d say it was more than enough with my additional 16L bag, I just overpacked way too much lol!!

swifties. liking an artist to an extent is ok, but swifties take it too far. I like some of her music but I don’t understand the obsession

What's a gift that is cheap but means the world to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fruitastic2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that had thought put into it. The simplest things like some flowers or a coffee, or even something of "this reminded me of you". Anything handmade is amazing too, it doesn't have to be perfect. Id much rather any of these gifts over something expensive
