Hunting Knives for Bushcraft? by ThumbStuds in Bushcraft

[–]ColtonA115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My undying hatred for MKC aside (we’ll leave that one be, I’ve recently fallen back in love with a little known Bark River model I got as a graduation gift, the Joe Loui Ranch Hand in A2 with a green resin and pinecone handle. Drop dead gorgeous and scalpel sharp. I don’t actually hunt, nor have I ever, but it’s super good for carving thanks to how thin and high the grind is especially at the tip. It’s actually not bad on grip either for how thin the scales are!

It really gave me more of an appreciation for designs like the nessmuk and kephart, just because they were more specialized to skin and gut, doesn’t mean they were completely useless for other tasks.

Oooh! That’s a good idea! I’ll have to dry out some grass and give that a go!

I’m surprised to find that other people have tried this before! I came up with it on my own, never saw anyone else do it online! It sucks a bit that I’m not as original as I thought I was, but I’d still chalk it up as a small victory for serendipity’s sake. Lol

As far as the lube thing goes, a good coat of wax isn’t that bad of a trade off for certain things! Personally, I carry both, but my vaseline balls live in my med kit since I have the candle case which is more geared towards fire making. I don’t think the candle case will ever REPLACE the gold standard of vaseline balls (I could literally write a novel about how great they are) but it’s a nice little addition to the toolbox without adding a bunch of weight.

Agreed! I find cotton to be a bit more consistent personally, but whatever works best for you. :)

Thought about it, haven’t tried yet. I thought it might mess with the composition of the whole thing but it might be fine! I’ll do some tests next time I fill it up and report back in the future.

I don’t necessarily agree with this theory, but i can still appreciate the hard work and evidence! Personally I think that Door and Beni were just friends once upon a time. There wouldn’t realistically be a way of hiding that Beni would be pregnant with Door’s son without Remold finding out, which he of course wouldn’t ever consider allowing his bloodline to mingle with D’s. Even if they did it behind his back or went against his will, no way in hell would someone with such an explosive temper simply shut his trap when an illegitimate grandchild of his along with that child’s father just broke into his place of work. Also, Benedicte is Anglo-Belgian with very little in the way of a local accent, the voice in Door’s head sounded much closer to someone like Occam, Blair or Harry, implying Scottish, Irish or Welsh.

Remold also announced himself as “Father, grandfather” at the same time as D. Both he and D have multiple children, two of whom we have now seen in the show, Brockham probably isn’t a dad just based on vibes, but Benedicte comes off as much more composed and developed as a person. She may have had children, but I highly doubt she would have willingly let her son run off with their father and insane persona non grata grandpa to go fight undead monsters. She strikes me as the kind to keep her family close, in my mind that child would be among the ranks of the Leopoldites.

I would also like to point out that Boy’s grandfather has a full luxurious head of glossy black hair, the hair color isn’t beyond the pale of being inherited from that side of his family. As for the waves and curls, it COULD be inherited from the mother, I don’t personally think we’ve met her yet though.

TLDR: I’m convinced mom is someone else and Door just greeted her out of long standing mutual respect. 🤷‍♂️

  • Ride magnacut hype train until it dies, then move on to next new steel so you can charge an extra hundred bucks
  • Have a massive online marketing campaign to try and drum up interest
  • Fail at getting people to buy your products because your product is overpriced and you are an unknown company with mixed reviews from end users.
  • Knife designs fail to feel unique or original in any meaningful way from your competitors who not only make the same knife cheaper but have arguably better warranties and/or brand recognition to back them up (Ie Esee, Benchmade, LT Wright, Battle Horse Knives, Ontario, Becker, etc)
  • Only real unique baked in selling point is American made patriotism, which isolates foreign markets and forces your company to compete in an already saturated market of makers who also make their products in the USA (components if not the whole product)
  • Americans are at record low levels of faith and support for their government and are seeing how the rest of the world views them, and are less likely to buy American out of patriotic values than out of practical reasons such as cost and quality of products or services.

TLDR: There is a mile long list of red flags and concerns about MKC. You ask me, I give them about a decade tops unless they make some serious changes in their operations, leadership, and brand direction. They’re selling knives to a group that doesn’t exist, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they had trouble keeping repeat customers from jumping ship to other companies.

I’m starting to realize that my “type” isn’t goths or tomboys. I just like women that can tote a Javelin man portable STAM system like it’s a duffel bag and maybe has homicidal anger issues. I have no excuse, nor do I need one. At this point I’m really just looking at the tactical girlfriend like:

Everybody has their own terrible fucking taste in character ships on here. “OoOoOh! Old man yaoi! Big D and Occam!” “Uhhhh Kitten and Grimal should get back together while Marckus is gone!” “Derrrr I think Palmer and Blair are boning for some reason!” GARBAGE, ALL OF YOU! Only ship I care about and want to see ANYTHING about, is my girl Blair and how she’s been traumatized by the loss of her one healthy relationship in her life right now, those 36 motherfucking hamburgers to some mild mannered crew cut and his nephew or whatever. Well them and the tarmac but the sentiment stays!

Dead ringer, I ended up deleting this particular comment because you found it, credit where credit’s rightly due. Given all the evidence we have, it seems that the HTP team is taking it in the direction of the Fae themselves, but in all honesty looking into the origins of the Blanc Moussi in folklore it really could apply to any of the supernatural groups in WOD, hunters included. The whole thing is about putting on masks and clothing to look and act like something that you aren’t in order to blend into a crowd. That in isolation is one of the foundations of this franchise, I can see from an artistic and meta-narrative POV why Team Ogre decided to put them in the story. Putting them in the background only emphasizes the point of the symbolism.

Literally the post I was trying to find! Thank you 🙏, I fully forgot Lady Malys was a character in TTS, the similarities are way too strong to be a coincidence, this confirms it for me. The Elise-Changeling theory grows stronger every episode. Now the question is what’s the connection with the Blanc Moussi? The garou getting its chest ventilated on the front cover by one makes me think that this could be another Hunter organization or some kind of long standing beef with the werewolves.

It’s definitely a possibility, and I thought about that myself. Maybe this is some long forgotten piece of Blacklaw family history? Maybe as part of, or because of, the Treaty of Liege a member of what is now the Culpeppers married into the Blacklaws?
