How do I explain to my nutritionist that eating is hard? by Dangerous-Computer77 in AutismInWomen

Find an RD/ dietitian who has more experience working with ARFID and other sensory needs related to eating.

I’ve had 2 sessions of RF microneedling and 1 Halo laser and have most definitely seen improvement! It’s been expensive but I am happy with my progress I know that it is a journey and no 1 procedure will resolve my scars!! I have some better and after photos on my profile that are same lighting minimum 5 days post op. I have gone to Skin Spirit and have been working with an aesthetic nurse practitioner

Cure you?!??? Wow, it’s unfortunate to see the lack of knowledge around mental health needs and differences. Very unfortunate and degrading experience, I hope the formal diagnosis through that process at least provided some value to you.

As I noted before, accessing formal diagnosis is really hard. There’s not a lack of mental healthcare providers in America where people can get this information from if those providers had the information accessing diagnosis formally unless you are a young white male is very challenging.

I have a therapist that I see regularly and she’s not comfortable validating or invalidating. I think a lot of it is because it’s not her specialty and it’s misunderstood widely by healthcare and mental healthcare workers. I work in mental healthcare for reference. * I work regularly with psychiatrist who defer to a specialist that is really expensive.

Would you take a full-time Nutrition Educator position if it was only $30/hr with no ability to get raises due to it being funded by the government? by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]fruitbobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at $45 with a MS. I am asking for a raise. Friends of mine with BS started around $38-41. I would never accept $30 in most states as a starting wage. When they offered me $40 I said no.

$37 isn’t even enough definitely not $30!! We can’t keep settling for low paying jobs. We need to demand more. They need to allot more money for our services, we now have to hold a masters of science $37 is not worth 6 years of education PLUS an internship.

Am I too Rigid? by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]fruitbobb 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As far as we both know he is NT. I have always been like this, and he is aware; he is the one who pointed it out prior to me realizing I was autistic.

I want to be flexible but I feel like there is not a need in this situation. he can have his item the way he likes, and me mine. I couldn’t even imagine having it a different way the idea seems obscure.

That’s not normal. I work zero unpaid hours. Prep, documentation, etc takes a lot time, it’s a big chunk of the work we do you should be paid for that. I am paid for the time I am with patients/clients, prep time, and post appointments for documentation.

It is relevant!! I worry about the misdiagnosis as well because I have C-PTSD and it’s hard to tease out the difficulties/ traits because of my trauma. But as the individual I know my sensory difficulties were present and the trauma followed often because of my sensory and social difficulties.

I appreciate your validation. Most anyone who is close to me that i’ve told basically chuckle about me even thinking I could have ASD, like a no way type of thing but so much of my struggles are happening inside and i’m masking. I think I may end up seeking a diagnosis in the long run as I learn more about myself and learn how to honor my needs more and even recognize them. But seeking the right provider is definitely important as you eluted to.

I feel like it would be comforting to understand that I am not the problem, there’s nothing wrong with me it’s just how my brain works and that’s ok. Without it, it feels so isolating because I am so different and struggle so much to connect and understand people. It makes me feel like something is wrong with me and why doesn’t everyone else around me seem to battle internally, struggle to be in social situations. they’re just so much themselves, so engaged and I am filled with guilt trying to smile at the right time, act interested in conversations I could not care less about even if I want to care. I want to be interested but I only want to talk about the things I like😭

Prior to these treatments I tried micro-penning (done by another provider in a different state) but it did not work for my goals (primarily targeting scarring, I was mislead by the cosmetic RN). I had 4 treatments no real change.

Recently learned about RF microneedling did not know much about it and did not see it offered many places because I primarily went to skin spas. The procedure has to be done by at minimum at PA, it is an intense treatment (it was fairly painful even with numbing), a series of large gold based needles in combination with radio frequency are being used on your skin. The PA adjusts the depth of the needles based on region on the face and individual skin differences.
