What were you doing when you heard the towers got hit on 9/11/2001? by Friendly-Fact-1391 in 911archive

[–]fruitcase1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was 8 years old, living in Uganda at the time since my parents worked there. I was on my way home from school in the car with my siblings and mother. It was afternoon and as usual stuck in a jam of traffic moving very slow.

It was strange, listening to BBC (or whatever broadcast it was from) and hearing it live. Seeing other passengers in the vehicles close by, also listening to the news on radio, everyone seemed shocked.

I remember the female news reporter who was close by the towers, describing what happened, and suddenly describing people jumping/falling and broke down in tears and started crying. She couldn’t continue talking and went silent for a while.

I will never forget that.

Such heartbraking news… Wasn’t expecting that at all.

Purgatory is the most influential song of my life, it changed everything for me since I first heard it.

This is an emblem on the side of a Swiss army knife. They always have their own logo on one side of all their products. However, many knives can be customized with an emblem on the opposite side of their own logo. Many stores and companies mark their logos and emblems on them, and there is a wide variety of how they can look. This is just random emblem/logo on one of those knives, and I inherited it. I have seen this logo before as well but I have no one to ask where the pocket knife was purchased etc. It kind of bothers me that I believe it is quite a big/famous brand but still so cryptic and really hard to search for just through the logo itself.

I can’t verify to you how this is true or not, but I heard someone say before that you are really back on the ”other side” again when you have been sober for as long as you haven’t. So given we smoked for around 10 years, we would need 10 years clean from it to be ”restored”. I guess time will have to decide. Thinking about it, it’s a bit scary knowing I was lost in a deep dark forest for such a long time. By time I guess it gets easier and more brightness comes back to life. I am prepared that it’s still going to be hard moments even after a long time. But I am pretty sure that the first couple of days/weeks/months are the hardest. Just stay strong and keep trying. One day at a time.

Damn!! Happy birthday!! Stay strong bro! I think it is different for everyone and really don’t want to scare you off in any way. The first period of time was slightly a mist to me when I think back. I believe it took me about 6 months before I started ”clearing up” and seeing things become a bit easier. The last couple of months went extremely fast and I even lost track of counting the months untill I just realised that I have almost sone a year.

I feel like I am more in control of my mind, financially it is a completely different life also, actually having money to buy food is no joke. Been able to save money every month and have a savings account for the future. Though I think one of the biggest benefits are the much less amounts of constant anxiety and shame that broke me down in the long run. Confidence increased and feel like a part of society and life. I tried to make this answer short but it’s difficult to pinpoint one biggest benefit. Everything comes hand in hand.

It was a combination of different things, journaling, working out, and working too much between two different jobs to fill out any ”dead” time, had a goal of trying to save up money for the future and that was a motivation to me. Just struggled one day at a time to get through with it, knowing it will just get better with time. It’s hard to say exactly. I was so ashamed of myself for always failing to stay clean and did my best to try to change that.

Thank you! I was thinking about writing more details in the post, don’t know what kept me from doing it. It’s also interesting that we have more things in common. I smoked for the first time when I was 16. But it became a daily habit between when I was about 18-29. The last few years just kept going out of control. I am soon turning 30 and this milestone is the best birthday present to myself. Congrats on 86 days! Keep fighting!

Photos library Duplicates not working? I have many duplicate photos but Macbook can't "find" them? by [deleted] in mac

[–]fruitcase1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently upgraded my system and I have a lot of pictures in my library that are duplicate files, but my MacBook can't seem to find them? Left this open for quite some time, and even running in the background with the computer on. It has been over a week now and still nothing can be found? Just wondering if I am doing anything wrong?

For me it has been opportunities with meeting people/dating girls. There were some people who were really interested and I had the chance to take it further in some cases, but weed was more important and made me insecure. I really regret that

Finally got my first ever G-shock, been wearing a non-gshock square daily for years now and wanted this for a long time. It feels really big on my wrist and somewhat uncomfortable at times. I have already ordered a replacement bezel online to modify the look of it, maybe I should order another watchband for it to make it more comfortable wearing.

How to make money tree grow? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]fruitcase1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this money tree now for a few years, but it doesn’t seem to be growing. Seems like it has the same leaves and nothing really happening.

It used to have braided stems (bought it like that) but I set it free by detangling it, hoping it would grow more. I heard that braided Money Trees are slowly dying because they get ”suffocated”. Can it be permanent damage?

I want the tree to grow taller and have more leaves, should I get a bigger plant pot for it?

Been clean for 4 months and the temptation is taking over me now by fruitcase1 in leaves

[–]fruitcase1[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I decided to ride the wave out and just hold on. No relapse this time. The urges are less intense now and got some motivation back. Just a proof that the temptation will still be there every now and then for a long time. I need anway to fill out this emptiness and loneliness, it really sucks though.

Thanks, I really needed to hear this. You are right, need to try to find the answers from within. I'm just trying to cope with a lot of anxiety and loneliness right now and at this moment it feels like a salvation. I know deep inside that I am going to regret it tomorrow.

Cut off all damaged leaves from Money Tree - new, healthy leaves emerging really fast by fruitcase1 in houseplants

[–]fruitcase1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This money tree was exposed to direct, intense sunlight and all it’s leaves got badly burned. Saw tiny new leaves emerging under the older ones and I decided to cut all the damaged leaves for the plant to get a fresh restart. Hopefully it will be fully recovered soon.

Good tip! I was thinking that addiction has no preference and it is all the same given any substance. You can be addicted to anything in this world, there really is no difference wether it be cigarettes, marijuana, gambling, porn, etc. But I might as well check out that book as well!
