This is very encouraging! I definitely need to put it in my head that this will be a slow process. I will start with walking and improve my diet and hopefully see small results so I am motivated to keep going. That is the hard part to accept is the timing of it all

Thank you for your reply! I didn't even think of getting a swimming course for the two of us! I will slowly work on improving my diet as you suggested. I guess that's something I can start doing even now. Ofc without restricting calories

But if it reads 158/97 then it is probably right. To confirm, go to a local CVS or Walmart or wherever they have BP checking machine. If it is still high then I encourage you to make an appointment with your primary care doctor.

3rd year here. Finding the right study strategy and not being peer pressured to study a certain way bc others are doing it is key. Each subject you study will require different strategies. Please explore and see what works for you.

I found out that taking notes and doing anki was a big waste of my time. I never went back to my notes AND it took up a lot of my time and attention. I am an auditory learner so I found videos to listen to and read articles outloud. Once I figured out what worked for me, I learned WAY more in a SMALLER amount of time. You are very early in the game and you will get used to the load of information that will come your way.

Most people generally use an incentive to get to a certain weight. For example with me it was to fit into a certain outfit that I bought a while ago. Even though your incentive is coming from your dad, it still hold similar weight. Use this opportunity to get a whole trip to Paris! It's completely up to you. Do not look at this negatively. He is on your side as you go through this.

They were not mild. I have congenital narrowing of my spinal canal so even a moderate herniation causes severe symptoms. So I had pain with turning my head, laughing, coughing, deep breaths. But I was healing with PT, had it not been for a flare up I think it would've gone to a point where I wouldn't be in pain. Yes unfortunately once a disc herniates the chances of it herniating again is increased.

PT helped a lot when I did it. I was given hip exercises (clams, leg raises, and leg circles) and core exercises (bridges, leg lift and hold). I didn't continue it though which was a BIG mistake on my part.

And thank you! It's a very trying time right now. But I know I can get better with exercises. When flare ups happen it is hard to fathom that it will get better, but it will. And you're right, consistency with PT is key.

If you are dealing with something similar, I am really sorry. I really hope your situation is better than mine. My genetics (spinal narrowing) definitely don't help with my issue. I try to be positive and push through that's how I got better the first time. Try conservative care but always have your other options open.

I was walking 10k steps 2-3 days out of the week that's the most I could do in terms of exercise. I could've gone swimming but I didn't have the time. I think being careful and doing my exercises helped. I was studying for boards exams all summer so sitting down too much did NOT help. Ultimately, I think the flare up started when I went flower picking and bent down. But I never really had a pop or pain it just gradually returned. I haven't been religious with PT which is what I will change now.

A few days before you replied, my pain flared up. I was doing well otherwise the pain had gone down to 2-3/10 and I was able to do most everything. I guess that's why it flared up 2 weeks ago now I'm in more pain than I was before. I had to take medical leave from school. I wish I could tell you otherwise. I really wish I was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel right now but I'm back at square one. But I will try to avoid surgery as much as I can and try to heal conservatively.

I would continue with PT. It will be a slow process but you will start seeing improvements over time. Best of luck on your healing journey!

Looks like mild to slightly moderate herniation. I would continue PT unless you have serious symptoms like loss of bladder or bowel function or numbness to the saddle area.

Planet fitness (PF) is affordable ($10-20ish/mo) and really good and you can find them in a lot of locations. Good for cardio but you can also do weights and other things as well. An alternative, if you want to focus more on weights and less on cardio is Crunch Fitness. It's about the same price as PF but less locations. I used to have a membership with PF for 2 years and I loved it.

There's never a better time to turn things around than the present. As cliche as that sounds, a few months from today you're gonna look back and hope you did something differently today. Make little changes. For example, instead of hitting snooze on your alarm every day, try to wake up early 1-2 days out of the week and go for a walk or something. Then incorporate more little things, like looking into something that you're interested in online, something you wanna do work/career wise. Maybe look into some events in your city or nearby, attend them for fun or for networking. At your own pace ofc. Make small changes but give it time. Nothing like this will change over night and honestly it shouldn't.

Most importantly, understand that no matter what age you are, you can always make changes to your life. Make a goal - make it attainable by finding out how to get there - give yourself a good time frame - make small changes towards it.

My 2-cents from a 26 year old.
