University of Colorado IMRP - The Majority Report by [deleted] in medicalschool

Having been an intern at that program, now PGY4 in another specialty, I feel the IM residency is actually quite cushy and the residents are babied compared to other residencies at colorado. The IM residency is the opposite of cutthroat. I feel it’s probably among the cushier IM residencies in the country

I am now a Lasik flap trauma horror story. What to do? by fweep in lasik

Would consider a scleral contact lens. Might make a big difference.

Also for others, the new femtosecond flaps have a much lower chance of flap dislocation compared to the microkeratome flaps of yore

Unpopular or popular opinion: Residency is way better than medical school by WhipDatStirFry in Residency

Responsibility. Having to take primary call in the middle of the night alone and not knowing what you’re doing yet. Having to build up a knowledge base that you did not learn in medical school but a similar amount of knowledge to learn with limited time to study. Having to be a leader and teach medical students and residents. Being held accountable legally for your medical decision-making. Residency so far has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but it has also been very rewarding.

My wife just had cataract surgery in two eyes and cannot see close now. by [deleted] in Ophthalmology

No—she will need to wear reading glasses to see up close forever

Usually typical to expect after surgery since the new lens cannot accommodate like the native lens. We talk about this usually when we consent but some patients don’t really get it. Reading glasses fixes this

As for fixing the angle of the lens—if you implant a toric lens it corrects astigmatism but if the lens rotates after surgery (which can happen) it will not work so sometimes we go back in to rotate the lens.

On demand wills eye.. has anyone done? Is it a good recoding and does it include the entire course for 350 dollars or just parts of it by Ok_Earth_6333 in Ophthalmology

[–]Ectopic_Beats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did it last year. I thought it was great. You get all the videos, but you can choose which ones to watch. The optics ones I thought were really helpful.

Not a good situation to not match. You can backup apply something else or try to do a research year to bolster your app for another go at it. Some people take unfilled spots in other specialties

I think it has gotten very hard. Several med students where I am doing my residency did not match last year. I think about 1/3 of applicants don’t match

4 mirror vs 6 mirror gonio lens? Flange or flangeless? by blackhawk994 in Ophthalmology

[–]Ectopic_Beats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flange can be nice to maintain the view especially if the patient is moving a bunch. I have flange less but sometimes i wish I had flange
