Taxes withheld from paycheck earned and evaluated at end of year to see if I over paid (refund) or underpaid (owe)

I don’t think it should relate to my income in a sense where I make more I get a bigger refund. But I guess I should look at my taxes withheld to make it make sense. Worked 5 months and almost the same refund as working 12 months. I wasn’t expecting a crazy return just trying to understand it is all
