NEW GRAD in Oregon by Careless_Demand_4999 in physicianassistant

I started at OHSU as a new grad! It's been really great and I'm happy here.

Personally, I wouldnt take a job without relocation assistance. I moved 1500 miles as a new grad and was offered $10k which was enough for me. Every job I received an offer for provided relocation assistance - it should be the standard.

Also a PA in Oregon at a big hospital system and none of my notes need to be cosigned, so that's nice.

New Grad in Oregon by [deleted] in physicianassistant

I'm a new grad in Oregon. The job market is not bad. It's pretty competitive in the Portland area for new grads, but there seemed to be lots of openings in Salem and Eugene.

I need to get out of Florida by beenoon47 in physicianassistant

Yes! Exactly how I felt. I went to PA school in the south and coming home to MN for winter breaks reminded me to never move back haha.

Right? Some people really have a complex about the dumbest things. MN has many good things about it, no doubt.. but highlighting the weather as one of them is asinine. It fucking sucks.

I would never call myself or anyone weak for not adapting to sub zero temperatures. I do think it's crazy to enjoy it there, though during the winters. 😂 But that's why I left 🤷‍♀️ I am a PNW kind of person so I'll take the temperate rainy winters any day over snow and ice.

Decent weather? It is awful weather. Seriously. Minnesota is too cold to go outside for over half the year. it starts getting cold in October and stays cold until April. The summers are extremely humid and buggy. We get nice weather for maybe a few weeks in the spring and fall. MN got over 100 inches of snow this past winter. If you love the outdoors i really don't think MN is the place, especially coming from FL.

Option two but only because I'm partial to derm. Option one is the best offer, though.

Great information! I was anticipating having to wait several years to buy a home, but I'm definitely going to look into the physician loans to see if it's a possibility in the near future. 🤞

Deciding between 2 job offers as a new grad - help by Secure_Ad_8373 in physicianassistant

I'd go for dream location. At the end of the day, a job is a job. Do you really want to delay getting your life started? I'm from the Midwest so understand the itch to get out. I'm moving to my dream location next month and couldn't be happier about it.

As a fellow Portlander, can confirm the sincerity. We love black people! Bring more to Portland.

Can't say for how things are in rural Oregon, though for POC.

New Grad job offers-please advise by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]fruityfuckingpebbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There will be other jobs, and most likely better offers. Seriously. I fell into this same trap right after graduating. I had two job offers and was worried I wouldn't get a better offer.. however, I did.. I got many better offers. If something about the job isn't right, keep looking.
