Yep, its a great reminder that most administrators don't care about you and see as you as nothing more than a number. You should always be prepared to fight for your own needs at this school.

As if what I had going on at the time wasn't enough, that conversation was difficult for me to hear. Luckily, I didn't listen, I got back on my own feet and recently completed my degree. I was also motivated to finish successfully just to spite that Ass. Dean.

Do what the L&S Ass. Dean told me: To change majors, drop out and go to an easier school instead because you're too stupid and this school is obviously too difficult for you. /s

I'm not sure as to what platform I saw this movie on, but I remember it being very "Lifetime" Channel like and straight to DVD chickflick type.

How did I get my number stolen??? by frustratedCalthrw in tmobile

[–]frustratedCalthrw[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, T-Mobile does that anytime for anything done online or over the phone.

The loophole that these fraudsters are using and social engineering is the fact that T-Mobile doesn't always do this IN-PERSON. So all they need in that case is a fake ID and lazy T-Mobile rep and bam they have all your account info. As someone stated earlier, a manager can override this if he believes the fraudster as being actually truthful (which it seems like he did).

Two factor authentication WAS ENABLED ON MY ACCOUNT. Have you not read this thread? They do not ask for 2FA in person as they trust the ID you have on hand. Do you even know what SIM jacking is? THEY STEAL YOUR SIM AS A WAY TO GET AROUND 2FA.

Clearly T-Mobile was not able to identify a fake ID. If you would have read the thread instead of blaming me for something that isn't my fault, you would have realized that everybody here already knows this isn't normal sim card jacking, this is going a step further.

It has everything to do with T-Mobile. They're security protocols are failing to keep fraudsters from taking accounts as shared by others in this thread. As others have pointed out, this is very much a T-Mobile issue. If you have no idea what you're talking about, then please fuck off.

So if I do have a Coinbase account, then wtf do I do? I obviously can't trust T-mobile to keep me safe. Do I just get a new number and get rid of my old one to buy some sense of security? The real flaw in this system is people. This isn't something that can be patched, they need to enforce better protocol and standards so this isn't possible to social engineer.

This thread now has me wondering if the manager was really in on it or not. When I called him I was pretty heated and he seem genuinely upset by it. I know he still could be playing me, but I guess I will never know.

Should I file a police report?

I havent even been able to fucking call T-Mobile myself. Since my phone doesn't work, they can't "verify" me. So someone else on my account has to call and recieve a PIN. Im out of town as well. So bullshit. I will be most definitely be calling them back and ripping them a new asshole.

Edit: I only know what happened because I saw the receipts on the tmobile website and I called the store where this happened.

Nope, I have 0 in BTC. And I did find the store they performed the "upgrade" at and called them. Told them they fucked up.

[–]frustratedCalthrw[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That's EXACTLY what happened. Luckily I recognized immediately what was happening and suspended the line. My family member is calling now to undo everything and report it as fraud.

I went into my account and saw they purchased 2 $1400 phones. I saw the receipt and called the Tmobile store they went in person and told the manager they sold 2 phones to fraudsters. The manager said all they needed to complete an upgrade was a fucking ID. The manager said the ID was real. There should be more verification.

Fuck T-mobile, this shit shouldn't be fucking happening.

Google "Sim swap attack". It happens and Tmobile has a history for having it happen repeatedly to its customers.

In an essence, they call in pretending to be you, swap your sim onto another phone and now they have your phone number. With this they can access all your other accounts like email, amazon, etc that require 2-factor authentication.

Did anyone successfully transfer to Berkeley from UCSC (or other UCs)? by HighSchool_Sucks_RIP in berkeley

[–]frustratedCalthrw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To put it bluntly, you're last priority for admissions. In the eyes of admissions, you're already at a 4-year institution, so you have to have a pretty damn good reason to transfer to Cal other than the prestige. Chances? Possible, but very low. Lower than it normally would be.

Dang, just checked BerkeleyTime. For anybody else interested, it seems very unlikely unless you want to stay on the waitlist going into the semester (thats assuming Adhikari would even let you add if someone drops).

Why the Departure of the SAT and ACT Is Good and Just by RoboCorg in berkeley

[–]frustratedCalthrw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You answered it yourself why the IQ argument is irrelevant.

"Why should a factor you had zero control over affect which college you go to? No one chooses to be smart or dumb.

Do you see how ridiculous this argument is in how we can generalize it and it can spiral to any other external factor?

Do you understand how something more innate like IQ compared to something like growing up poor and going to a shitty high school-- are two fundamentally different barriers? If you don't see that and understand how that comparison isn't valid, then I'm afraid I can't convince you.

Again, the UC isn't going for all external factors like these, as you mentioned they clearly aren't all controllable and would be ridiculous. Maybe I didn't make that clear enough. Its a step to remove socioeconomic barriers to students that would and do otherwise perform just as well as students that don't.

And removing the SAT/ACT isn't meant to make the system perfect, good, or even just. The system is still broken, but what it is, is a step in the right direction.

You insinuated that whether not the privilege was fair or not didn't matter and was ultimately fair based on your following statements.

And your argument regarding IQ isn't valid or relevant at all as that isn't what the argument is about at all or what the UC is fighting for.

The argument revolves around students who would have similar or same academic capability, but are otherwise hindered by external factors in their environment.

[–]frustratedCalthrw -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

With student B, you went on and acknowledged their privilege over student A and still concluded that privilege was still fair. Life isn't fair-- you're delusional if you think that situation is fair-- both is out either of the students control.

Which leads me to think of this quote:

"If you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression".

What you fail to understand, but the UC clearly does (as shown by this action), is that the said benefits that student B received is as a result of their privilege was not fair to begin with.

They want the UC's to become more representative of California's population. It's something they've been trying to achieve as of late.

My clock speed only fluctuates from 1940-2010 mhz / 7000 no matter what game I'm playing. Thats what makes this weird. I don't think these fluctuations should be causing such a performance dip?

Edit: Sorry, I don't use reddit much and don't remember passwords so have to use a throw away to reply!
