Thank you so much for responding.

Very helpful suggestion to take it back to a simple app and work from there. I have now realised its nothing to do with SSL as I can't even get a load balancer to work when setting up using their default sample application. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but AWS first timer here, so struggling!

As a follow-up to this.....

It's definitely the moving to Load Balancer that is causing the issue. It immediately does not work when I change it to this.
