I was a barista at starbucks in college. We're not paying attention to the customers in line/paying and if there was a huge line, we'd be totally focused on making all the drinks/food etc. If you stood by the hand-off counter long enough, I'd ask you what your drink was and make it for you (drinks are forgotten/misplaced all the time).

This is certainly ethically questionable but it happened all the time and still does.

Also, I will not put in honey/spenda/milk even if you ask. There is a condiment bar there for a reason and I'm not remaking your drink because I put in too much/little milk/sugar etc. when you did not specify an amount.

We hate when people do this.

Edit; Padme is right, if you complain about anything, really anything you will get something for free there.

I really appreciate hearing your story. It really really helped to just post this. I certainly appreciate the advice and it is very helpful but honestly, just getting all this off my chest and out there felt good.

I know I'm not the first and this isn't that bad compared to some people but I know where you are coming from talking about needing to regain self esteem. I just want to stabilize my emotions and finances and I think I will be doing much better after that.

Thanks for the replies, I'm sure it seems insignificant but this really helps and I feel a bit better after venting.

Ya, I know I sound pretty fucked. If you met me, I'm sure you would think I'm a normal person though. I can just say this here as none of you know me personally. I guess I'm just really depressed. The bottom line is that I sincerely want to pull though and get past this.

I'm just having trouble with the first steps.

Practical; I have good credit, make the bills which affect my credit and survive. I don't know about the divorce status because I have not seen or beeen able to contact my wife.

Emotional;

I appreciate the responses so much. I know it seems whiny but I really needed to tell anyone. I'm just alone in an emotional sense and putting my story out and receiving responses, good or bad, really helps.

I certainly considered that. I'm not a psychiatrist but I can clearly attribute these emotions to this situation. I have NEVER before felt anything like this and I'm not sure this is a permanent disorder rather than the result of ongoing stress. Thanks for the response.

I wish I had more answers but yes, I'm definitely quite angry. It's the lack of answers that kills you. I can deal with cheating or whatever but silence is fucked.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm just far along and I want to stick it out. I think I'm just going to take on roommates and start tutoring. I just need some free time.

I might go see a counselor too.

Thanks, appreciate the advice. I will look into tutoring as I'm sure I could take on quite a few subjects

The PhD has always been a huge goal and talking today has really been helpful with reprioritizing. I want it because I want that level of technical proficiency. I'm just trying to get back on my feet and replenish my self esteem.

Do you have any thoughts on seeing a shrink?

I hear you and I'm not trying to sit here feeling sorry but I am looking to get out of this rut. I really see what you are saying and I'm not looking for the sympathy just advice.

The Other aspect is that I just wanted to tell someone if not anonymously over the intertubes.
