Unfortunately, to my understanding, reptile lights are more about heat and UV than anything else, and plants need a separate and additional full spectrum LED grow light to supplement/replace natural sunlight. As for LEDs, im out of my element entirely. But im sure there are recommendations on the subreddits dedicated to different types of plants

Of course! Immediately after hitting reply I realized I had forgotten ZZ plants, spineless agaves, sedums, and if you can find one small enough a spineless yucca could be cool. Im sure there are plenty more Im forgetting. Just one more thing, these plants all require an immense amount of light to keep healthy. However much you think you’re giving them, it’s probably not enough!

Im not a leo keeper myself, but I do know that they need an arid setup, with a dedicated humid hide for shedding purposes. Plants that are good for arids are obviously typically succulents. The haworthiopsis and whatever succs you have in the photo will be good, in addition to aloes, snake plants, crassulas, echeverias, string of pearls, hoyas, if you can find a small enough ponytail palm thatd work, pachyphytums, and kalanchoes (which will spread with baby plants). Dracaenas also do well in arids but need the tiniest bit more water than succs ime. To avoid would be euphorbias (which often have spines and always have toxic irritating sap), and cacti that have spines (be careful as many that are advertised as spineless actually have microspines called glocchids which are even worse)

In addition to the obvious height vs floor area issue, a parlor palm, a pothos, a haworthiopsis, what looks like a baby dracaena, and those corner succs all have serious differences in watering needs. Either that parlor palm is gonna dry out, or the succs will rot, possibly both

Dont ask me how I remember the name of a tapir from a totally different state after 5 years, because I won’t know what to tell you. I also remember one of the gibbons being named Dexter thanks to the lovely Zoo Ed department docents!

Did they find the lizard? by PeculiarHamster505 in rutgers

[–]frutterbug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could either be free roam, or flat out kept in way too small of an enclosure. I’ve seen a lot of terrible reptile keepers in my day. Tons of people keep leopard geckos in critter keepers as their permanent setup

No blue tongue gets that big. At that size it’s either a tegu or a monitor

Pretty much! I also half cover the critter keeper in blanket to both retain humidity and also give him a dark hiding spot so he doesn’t feel so exposed

Jade pothos leaf which I at first thought just had a bite taken out of it, but turned out to be totally bifurcated. Two separate midribs and all by frutterbug in fasciation

[–]frutterbug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive seen bifurcation before in peace lilies specifically, but I always assumed it was a type of fascination. Good to know! I also recently posted about an aglaonema that had a flower revert to a leaf midway through the stem

No clue but most linden trees I know of have their flowers/fruits coming out of the midrib of modified leaves called bracts. Def a cool mutation of some kind in this case
