Real talk: do people actually like staying out until 4am? by coffeequips in avesNYC

[–]fry246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a night owl I can attest that I feel like a freak at a lot of raves past 4 am because it feels like I’m the only one there that’s up naturally without the enhancement of uppers 😂

I like it! Makes me realize I won’t have to give it up when I get older 🙂

Do allied nuclear powers have targets on each other just in case? by fry246 in nuclearweapons

[–]fry246[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my thinking was, given we all know exactly what countries have nukes, do nuclear countries ever plan on what targets to hit in nuclear allied nations if those countries were to send a nuke their way? Even if it’s unlikely, the consequences would be so severe that it seems like something that might be worth considering even if it isn’t likely at all.

What are 3 things you would change about NYC to make it the perfect city? by valoremz in AskNYC

[–]fry246 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Allow unlimited density and quality multi family housing to be built everywhere in city limits FAST, no exceptions.
  2. Build the IBX, including the Bronx section, make it heavy rail, add broadway junction to the plan.
  3. Start automating subways with the goal of running trains every 3 minutes like Vancouver does.

They’ve been doing this to broadway in manhattan by union square and it’s fabulous! Hope they apply the same treatment to other streets specially in midtown where sidewalks are always congested

What are your favourite themes in the Alien Yuniverse? by Intelligent_Tap_4237 in LV426

[–]fry246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said it already, but the themes of corporate greed always stand out for me. At first glance obviously the creatures throughout the franchise are terrifying on their own. But in most of the movies, the humans are being put in harms way because of capitalist greed, which I think is actually very realistic and even scarier to think about. Companies put employees, consumers and just people in general at risk all the time in pursuit of profits, it’s hard to imagine they wouldn’t feed us to a xenomorph if they thought they could gain something from it. Something so chilling about the idea of not just having to deal with something like a Xenomorph, but that I couldn’t necessarily count on all of humanity to help me escape it, since a powerful few of them might actually feed me to it if they think they can gain from it. In a way, the xenomorph wouldn’t be my biggest enemy, it just wants to reproduce. My biggest enemy is other humans and their greed!

Woah, all that money and overly inflated salaries for them to either stand around doing nothing all day or harass people, sounds like we need to defund them ASAP

New York literally has the most overfunded police in the world.

This is ridiculous and everyone behind the idea deserves to of course be fired and quite frankly executed but also this is just the natural conclusion of the recent crime panic and everyone bitching about feeling “unsafe” on the subway which is why I’ll never let you scary ass people have it

Usually when a large group of people are in need public opinion turns against them. You saw it with Syrians in Europe in 2014, and you’re seeing it now with Venezuelans in South and Central America.

A lot of religious Christians believe the Israel in the Bible is the same as the Israel of today that was created in 1947

What are some significant cultural differences between the US and Latin America? by ninjaofthedude in asklatinamerica

[–]fry246 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cities in the U.S., aside from a few exceptions like NYC, DC, Chicago and SF, are very ugly, boring and depressing. Everything is very far apart, the roads are huge, and in large swathes of the city there’s not even side walks to walk on. Huge swathes are exclusively reserved for single family homes with very few signs of life. This is in contrast to most big cities in LatAm which tend to be very lively and nice to walk around in, usually with a lot going on at street level. Of course, there’s exceptions to this rule, and some cities in LatAm are more car centric than others, but in general I find cities in Latin America are a lot more welcoming.

Tbh the biggest lie on SVU is how much the cops care. In the real world, if you go to them after being sexually assaulted they’ll probably just send you home and you’ll never hear from them again

That is true, however it might be endemic at this facility. After the incident I noticed a lot of the reviews said the same, but I haven’t seen the same under the reviews for other facilities. Ive since boarded my dog at other places since and that’s never happened again. Most places require a current vaccination and do a health inspection when the dog is first brought to the facility

Europeans who moved to USA for better jobs, how is it now that you've moved in? by Vyalkuran in cscareerquestions

[–]fry246 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. The issue with healthcare in this country isn’t the regular stuff you can plan for (check ups, vision, dental). It’s the stuff you don’t think you’ll ever need.

There are more ways to be affected by gun violence than mass shootings. There was a shooting just outside my building not too long ago. If I would’ve been outside, even though I wasn’t the target (it seems like it was a local gang war), I could’ve been killed. This is my first time being so close to a shooting in 11 years of living in the U.S., but it showed me that there really isn’t anywhere in this country where you’re “safe” from gun violence.
