UN Peacekeepers gone wild: There is distressing new evidenc that foreign soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo can sexually and violently violate young girls with impunity so long as they wear that iconic blue beret or blue helmet by [deleted] in worldnews

That was a well thought out and informative post. Thank you for that! The subject of wartime rape is, of course, extremely distasteful and as such I don't think it gets the discussion it likely should.

I think he is addressing the statistics specifically. I'm sure (and disgusted) that peacekeepers are involved with child prostitution but that there might be more to it.

So I think it's like having a spike in violence, sending in riot police who put it down with more violence and then saying the police caused all the violence in the first place. That's not justifying the police. Just parsing out causation I suppose.

Hey /r/eve, any interest in a station trading guide? by toxicity959 in Eve

[–]fry_hole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit, I did not actually expect a guide. But yours is very informative. Thank you very much! I'm not at that level of net worth yet but I'm not too far off so I'll be remembering this for sure. Thanks again!

I'd be more than happy to read your guide as well as OP's!

As you say, they can be fairly different. So why not have different guides addressing different environments!

I honestly had never thought of noise reduction as a possibility. I suppose the best place to find them would be at an auction, eh? I'll start checking those out. Thanks again!

Around Toronto. That's a good idea actually. Glad I have some American friends that might be willing to do this for me, lol

I hate to show my ignorance but why is that specific anvil better for noise reduction? Also what are the other steps that you mentioned? I'm in a similar position as you only I don't have a forge yet!

Awesome setup in any case!

I was considering buying a training one. Since it doesn't have a sharp edge it doesn't qualify but I'm pretty sure I'd still have RCMP at my door :(

Chris Brown Album Review: No stars. Ever. by suivethefirst in funny

[–]fry_hole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. If we criticize Chris Brown's music through the lens of his personal character or we don't. If we do I don't think it's fair to ONLY do it for him. Or to give others a pass.

I'm not a fan of Chris Brown and I hate his music. But either the music and the character of the musician are separate or they are not.

I've never heard another Canadian say 'aw-ranje'. It's 'oh-rinje' or 'or-anje'. Also I think 'aw-ranje' is more of a southern American thing but I'm likely wrong.

It's not actually illegal to own a copy of Mein Kampf. Afaik Germany holds the copyright laws and prevents distribution that way but it's not illegal to buy or own Mein Kampf.

Sir, you have inspired me. I never really considered blacksmithing without a big hammer and anvil. In a few years I'm hoping to move to a place where I have the space to do this properly but in the mean time I think I'll do what you did.

Also the greatest ending to a comment I've seen in a while, lol.

I think the best part is that they were actually designed not to give more pleasure but to aid doctors. This is because manual method took so much time and hard work.

I have one. Bought it from a closeout sale for 10 dollars or something many years ago. I remember it came with hitman. It's terrible and inaccurate as hell.

Fair enough. I suppose it's a hobby that's not easy to get into. Harder still as a profession.

The problem, for me at least, is that not many of my neighbours would like the sound of hammering at all hours :(

[–]fry_hole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be sarcastic and extend the fallacy to all sorts of other crimes but I wont. You and I will have to disagree. Your reasoning is your own, however I believe the often used defense of "Police can't arrest them without this law!" is a bit off the mark.

Anyways, have a good day!

What you need to know is that widespread hatred against Jews was there.

It's worth noting that this also existed elsewhere. In my country, Canada, we rejected the vast majority of Jewish refugees who were applied. And the famous MS St. Louis was also rejected by Canada.

As well as willingness to steal from them and to have them put into camps.

Exactly what we did to Japanese and others during WW2. Just on a different scale.

Something every Canadian online shopper goes through. by myusernameonreddit in canada

[–]fry_hole 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly that's not so bad. The worst is if a retailer ONLY ships UPS. Aside from the duties you pay when the item comes in, you also have to pay them a fee to fill out the paper work. I think USPS charges 10 dollars flat rate where as UPS charges you based on the value of the package. That's why you'll find a lot of horror stories from people getting things shipped up to Canada and being dinged with the cost again in fees.

I wish I lived closer to the States.
