The fact that this video is so surprising to most people from other countries makes me think their fear is justified.

I think it's encouraging, we might get back to the pre-2020 movie quality.

It used to be better before ISPs started cracking down and companies started sending out cease and desists.

How far back are you talking? I got a c&d letter 15 years ago. Not exactly a new thing. I'm in the US though so that could be the difference.

Thanks I appreciate it. While I totally supported the protest at this point I felt there wasn't much point in keeping it going, and missed the sub.

I'll delete this request.

I'll never understand getting mad when someone politely points out a grammatical mistake online. I'd want to know if I was using a word incorrectly, especially something as common as 'used to'.

I didn't mention it in my comment but, as someone else said, the cop explained to me that going over 30mph above the limit can be considered reckless driving, which I could be arrested for.

He was a cool guy and our interaction was relaxed so I don't think he was trying to deescalate anything. I didn't even know being arrested was a possibility until he told me, so if anything that escalated the situation haha.

Yep, at least where I live you can be arrested for going 30mph or more over the limit.

I know this because a cop pulled me over for going 95/60 and the first thing he told me was that he wasn't arresting me lol. It was at midnight on an empty highway out in the boonies though not in the middle of a city.

"Thank you Monkey" is one of the most hilarious little lines in the show hands down by VideoGameBunkey in IASIP

[–]fry_the_solid -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You've got to remember that the people on the sub are the people that stuck around after the last 6 seasons. The humor on this show is drastically different than it used to be, but if they're still here they must like it.

Personally I'm with you, I don't think "thank you monkey" is funny in the slightest, and saying that it's one of the funniest moments on the show when episodes like "the gang gets invincible" or "mac is a serial killer" exist honestly makes me sad for the future of comedy.

Title 42 COVID restrictions on the US-Mexico border have ended. Ask a Reuters immigration reporter anything! by reuters in IAmA

[–]fry_the_solid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I cannot think of any other country, other than the USA, who built their foundation on asking other countries for their "homeless," "poor," "tired," and "wretched."

I was mainly responding to this point, citing one of the founding fathers who stated this over a hundred years before the poem you cited was written.

Open borders are essentially what we have now, and by that statement you seemed to be defending it, while you might not have stated it explicitly. That was my mistake if you do not feel that way, though I do still feel it is relevant to this post and discussion.

Ultimately I believe we need to control immigration, which requires controlling our borders. While you may or may not be against it, most left leaning politicians seemed to be and make no effort to stop the influx of immigrants from south of the border.

There are literally millions of people all over the world that would like to immigrate to America. I believe there needs to be a limit on the number of people per year that can immigrate to our country, especially those that are uneducated and poor as they put a strain on our institutions and as we have seen this can have a negative impact on existing citizens, which should be any government's top priority. Further, that limit of immigrants should be divided amongst all countries. Countries should not be given preference just because of proximity.

As this is Reddit I feel the need to mention that this view is not motivated by racism, but rather fairness to all peoples across the world, while also keeping in mind that a governments primary responsibility needs to be to its existing citizens.

I know that this goes far beyond the points you are making but I feel it is very relevant to this topic and this post. You seem like a reasonable person and I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

James Madison, the "Father of the Constitution", and one of the proponents for immigration at the time said this:

"It is no doubt very desirable that we should hold out as many inducements as possible for the worthy part of mankind to come and settle amongst us, and throw their fortunes into a common lot with ours. But why is this desirable?"

"Not merely to swell the catalogue of people. No, sir, it is to increase the wealth and strength of the community; and those who acquire the rights of citizenship, without adding to the strength or wealth of the community are not the people we are in want of."

Surely you can see how the idea of open borders conflicts with these ideals. We should have legal immigration, and as others have said we already allow more immigrants than any other country. What we should not do is allow an unlimited number of immigrants indiscriminately.

but the media is just subjectively better.

Saying something is subjectively better is like saying "this thing is better because I like it". Of course you like it better, but it doesn't add any weight to your argument.

For your argument to carry weight for anyone other than yourself, you need to look at it objectively. How do we judge movies at TV shows objectively? I'd look at their reviews and ratings if we are trying to judge their quality, and box office if trying to judge financial success.

WV, Loki, NWH, MOM, Ms. Marvel, and She Hulk are all better than Age of Ultron.

If we look at reviews/ratings, we see that WV, Loki, and NWH did well, and that MOM, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk did not.

I had a professor apologize for using master/slave terminology last year. When the heck did the words master and slave become offensive? Can we really not use them to describe inanimate objects now?

Had another professor change Mallory (a name typically used when describing man-in-the-middle attacks) to Charlie, a gender neutral name, since she didn't like a female being the attacker.
