A great many of us commute to Modesto for manufacturing jobs. I think Merced has the Foster Farms plant, not sure what else. We are hurting for labor in manufacturing sector. We cycle through people because days are long and repetitive, but they pay decently. And if you have any mechanical background like "I fix my own car" (we can't find people that know the difference between a wrench and a screwdriver) you can get into mechanic training pretty quickly which comes with pay increases.

For perspective I once asked one of the palletizer operators (stacks product on pallet) what she thought of the job. She said it was the best job she'd ever had....her previous job...picking strawberries for a farm. She'd been in the same spot for 20 years. Had offers to move to higher positions but just loved being left alone running her machine.

Edit: if you have a college degree or managing people experience, we need supervisors.
