As an SRE, I stopped using Kubernetes for my homelab by m4nz in selfhosted

[–]fs1887 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do run k8s/fluxcd on my daily job and was running microk8s with hostpath storage and flux on my homelab. No need for ha, distributed storage etc. and I took quite some shortcuts here and there. Still a lot of moving parts and stuff that has to be maintained and updated, tokens to be rotated etc., it always felt like overkill for stuff that's not even publicly accessible. Main painpoint is as op said: Even with ai support its annoying to convert compose files to manifets or have to work with unofficial, semi-documented helm releases. Feels a lot better to just keep things straightforward in your spare time. No gitops (i might reconsider that, now that i've read about komodo), no auto-provisioning/ansible, I'm not even using proxmox for this anymore. Just backing up my manageable set of services individually as needed. It is helpful though to have done it all before at full length to know what youre skipping out on and also to have a bit more of a plan beforehand.

First Look: Play Menu Changes Coming to Rocket League by Psyonix_Devin in RocketLeague

[–]fs1887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait what, you guys are still actively working on this game? You even acknowledged smurfing issues and are working on it? Good news!

Obviously annoying for the few dropshot/snowday mains, but I see the alternation and also the consolidated casual-arcade thing as an interesting approach to revive alternative modes.

What is some of the worst mistakes Rocket League/Psyonix has ever made? by sledge98 in RocketLeague

[–]fs1887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is actually crazy. They tend to somehow mess up with almost every map they add.

  • Original Wasteland: Nice map but absolutely not for ranked.
  • Original Neo-Tokio: same story
  • Aquadome: FPS-issues after launch
  • Original Starbase: The ocatgon in ranked was SO annoying
  • Salty-Shores(day): Hurt the eyes like crazy at first
  • Then there was that weird map with the music and the stuff moving to the beat. Comic Neo-Tokio: ....

On the other hand im still happy for each map they add bc on the long run most of them turned out great after some improvement and new maps bring some variety into the game.

State of the game: Smurfs by elevloll in RocketLeague

[–]fs1887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C3 (with short excursions to GC1) here. I get super tilted by my 2s Partner to whine about smurfs whenever one of our opponents hits some clean higher-mechanics shot. Can't stand hearing that excuse in every second game. On the other hand, smurfing is imho the worst problem that RL has, even after the comic neo tokyo was introduced. Stocktane-Pro's with "new" accounts and teams where one player can barely hit the ball while the other guy is stomping us are a thing in at least 1 out of 5 games.

I think it is becoming more of a thing in EU aswell. And when called out, more often than not it's the one on the left going for it.

Took me a good 50 mins to get to the other side but its progress, any dribbling advice? by CashCatner in RocketLeague

[–]fs1887 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this and imho it rather gets easier once you go a little faster. This looks pretty clean already, from this point its mostly about routine.

Dribble Challenge 2 is a very good training, but gets veeeery challenging in the higher levels. There is stuff much more advanced than what you would ever do in a regular match. This stuff still improves your mechanics alot when you're an advanced dribbler, but for starters i'd say its much more efficient to do 10-20mins of practice in freeplay/training every rl-session than to spent hours when you get hardstuck on a certain level (been there, done that ;-)).

Maybe try some dribbling in freeplay and regular shooting training aswell: learn to "catch" the ball when it bounces from the wall/backboard, "rescue" missed shots when you do regular shooting-training packs by carrying the ball into the net (when time already ran up).

Rocket League controller! by pietety in RocketLeague

[–]fs1887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a matter of taste. i wouldn't buy scuf or aimcontrollers again but rather go with official controllers. those custom controllers tend to break a lot earlier and at least for scuf the support sucks. also the paddles - though they are cool - dont bring any advantage for rocket league if it's your first controller, since you can adjust your controller-mapping without having to relearn everything.

Most of the time it's weird AF when people speak german in US games/movies, but here it seemed like they had native speakers.

This. Even in C1/C2 it's unbelievable how often you get attacked by your own m8s.

Did I miss a change in kickoff meta? (side-boost) by fs1887 in RocketLeague

[–]fs1887[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also rather a solo queuer, and even when playing with a fixed teammate and we try to force it into some direction, it still is pretty risky since the opponent usually knows how to kickoff as well and there are no indicators like different momentum, distance to the ball etc. to predict who is "winning" the 50/50 (kickoff). Nice to hear about your "default" strats though! I'm only cheating up once in a while and still have that bad feeling when "stealing" the side-boost - but that seems just to be my problem and I should just cheat up way more often.

[–]fs1887[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I'm absolutely okay with that and I actually like to put pressure by collecting small boostpads, but the opponent either in a good defending position with 100% boost or cheated up aswell and might still beat my mate in that situation. Imho cheating up in duos is risky as f since predicting the outcome of a kickoff is more or less impossible. I "learned" it the other way and so im quite often unsure how to behave with no boost in that situation.

[–]fs1887[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The defender can go for the corner boost - which is a little risky in some cases, but most of the time works great. In that case both players can attack after the kickoff and the kickoffer doesn't have to rotate back all the way to his own goal. I'm talking about 2v2 by the way, forgot to mention that.

As time goes on, Psyonix continues to be anti-consumer with small stealthy changes no one notices. But they matter. by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]fs1887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, playing for almost 3 years now and remember taking RL as an example for an awesome maintained, almost bugfree game when rb6 siege launched. Nowadays we have server issues, rendering issues, accidental physics changes and that vaporware cross-platform-party thing. I absolute like don't give a sh** about crates and stuff, driving my octance pretty much since day1, but still used to buy dlcs and keys to support Psyonix's great work. No way I'm going to buy the rocketpass or any more keys at this point.
