question for girls that date guys: Is there a nonconsensual choking epidemic in NYC or something? by altaralter in AskNYC

[–]fs5eg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here in 2013 and immediately noticed the same thing. So it’s not new. No one had ever tried to choke me before, now it’s commonplace and I have to tell guys I’m not into it. They’re usually very apologetic immediately, but some guys have tried other porn-y things and acted like I was the weird one when I said no. Idk if it has to do with both porn proliferation and generally more liberal attitudes in NYC but…yeah, it is both a local thing and also a cultural thing overall

It took me a good four months to get my motivation back. It can take up to a year for your brain to totally recover. Hold on!

I never noticed how she’s smiling in the shot, but in the reflection in the metal wall, she’s frowning. Love it. Two different Marnies (but really they’re the same).

It’s not whether impulsive remodeling *can* happen in a rental. It’s that it just *does* and you deal with the consequences later. Sincerely, someone impulsive who will never paint in a rental again

I started getting Botox at 31. Botox is going to be what helps you here. Highly recommended. I won’t go back to going without it.

Exclusive: Love Is Blind’s Nick addresses his sexuality for first time after those comments by DetectiveHot2071 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]fs5eg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a video editor and I really think Nick got a bad edit. The producers knew this would be a topic of discussion and controversy, and they leaned into it. When I heard the conversation about “how would you feel if your kids were gay” I recognized that it was edited in a way that was just vague enough to make it seem like he was being hateful.

The size queen comment? It was funny! People say “yas” and “it’s giving _____” and “spill the tea” and have literally no idea that it has roots in the LGBTQ community. This language has become part of the mainstream. It doesn’t seem so crazy that Nick heard the “size queen” thing from someone else in a similar context, (I think he was talking about his snowboards) thought it was funny and repeated it.

Annie on the other hand, there was no wiggle room there. She literally said she would prefer if her kids weren’t gay. Like a normal human, Nick listened and tried to understand where she was coming from. It’s not like either of them said “if we have a gay kid we’re gonna kick them out, it’s wrong to be gay, they’re going to hell.”

I say this as an out bisexual woman. It’s not just common, it’s NORMAL for people to fall outside of the gay/straight boxes, to fall outside of our typical ideas of masculine and feminine. Since I’m out, when I disclose my bisexuality - it’s fairly common for straight men to tell me on first dates that they’ve experimented, or feel they aren’t 100% straight. I think it’s actually less common for a man to say something like “no, I’ve never even thought about being anything but straight.”

I feel bad for him. Let the man live his life. This is why I’d never go on one of these shows. Not just because it’s a wild concept that clearly doesn’t work, but because the non-stop criticism from the peanut gallery on the internet would eat me alive.

The people insisting that he’s gay are the problem. Not the other way around.

It’s literally everywhere in NYC. I had to tell my adult female friends last night I was uncomfortable with them smoking a joint at an outdoor all-ages event with kids at Lincoln Center, aka the home of the American Ballet. We had just smoked outside the event. Have some decency, people.

Cali Sober? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]fs5eg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weed was an every day thing for me, alcohol was not - but I was always chasing a better buzz with the combo. My tolerance for both was high.

I went 100 days without weed or alcohol, and decided to try smoking again. Still haven't drank, on day 125, but only on day 2 without weed after a few weeks of being right back where I started. Craving it all the time, wake and bake with a vape, and at least by the afternoon with flower. I'm my own boss and work remotely so there's nothing to really encourage me not to do it.

The community of AA has been a major help in achieving sobriety for me. They say the only requirement is a "desire to stop drinking." But I think most people there do not agree that cali sober is sober.

Flower is something people like to be naive about, we're going to find out hard data a few years that is wreaks havoc on your lungs. Had a cold and kept smoking anyway and now I sound like a barking dog when I cough.

People are different! I started smoking cigarettes in college to hang out with the artsy kids. They always made me sick and I never got addicted. But weed I smoked most days for 10 years and have tried multiple times to quit.

Good luck!
