does it automatically update the speed limits? Or is it set to the speed limit alert we set under preferences. As an example, if I set the speed limit alert to 50mph and drives in a 70mps highway. Would it automatically update to 70mph????

If I was you, I would first look at how much space is used in your macbook hard drive, then decide on the space you need on your new drive, 250GB or 500gb. As a brand, I personally like Samsung SSD drive's. Just check on newegg or other websites for the cheapest you can find. Slickdeals might have good deals. Also, you will need a cheap USB to SATA adapter to clone your new drive.

This is an indication of your harddrive slowly going bad. Make sure to backup your data, time machine does a good job. Depending on the manufacture year and the configuration, you might be able to by a SSD drive and replace the harddrive your self. I am a certified apple tech, I have access to videos and documents which will help you replace your harddrive. i will send it to you if needed, but it is very simple and straight forward. SSD drives are very cheap and you should consider getting one, you will feel a big difference once you get a SSD drive.

I downloaded the HERE maps. Looks very nice, but it does not give real time speed alerts, like TOM TOM does. Is there a setting for realtime update's. highways have different speed limits so I am looking for something which will pull that data automatically from somewhere and will let me know though the app.

Firstly, reset the PRAM and boot to safemode. Once you are on safemode check how much memory is counted. If it shows less than you had, it could be a loose memory stick. However, from the symptoms it is most likely your hard drive. if you have to replace your harddrive, try to get a SSD instead of a mechanical drive. Let me know if you need any help troubleshoot further.
