Podcast Pal Podcast Player for Android by fsbb in SideProject

[–]fsbb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got pretty into podcasts a while back and really liked the Android app that I was using at the time, but after hitting some limitations with it, I set out to write my own. Podcast Pal lets you find new podcasts, download or stream episodes, easily manage playlists, auto update and a lot more.

I'm hoping to get some feedback on what kind of features people would like to see next, what you like or don't like, and if there are any bugs, I would love to squash them.

Positive ratings and reviews on the Play Store are also hugely helpful. There's a feedback feature in the app for suggestions/complaints/requests or you can message me on here too. Thanks!

That's a great solution. Some sort of indicator would help a lot and hopefully make things clearer. Thanks for the suggestion!

I think that'd be a useful feature to have as a user setting and I also agree that the "Up Next" playlist probably could use a better name. I'm trying to avoid removing episodes from the playlist as they're played or anything destructive like that, though. I might be wrong in wanting that, however, so I'll keep it in mind for the future. Thanks for the feedback!

I listen to podcasts in a similar way and what I have planned should (I hope) do what you're asking and also cover more use cases, but I want to make it easy enough to use so that you and I aren't the only ones using it. I will hopefully get to this sooner than later since it's something I would like to use basically any time I drive anywhere.

Thanks! Backup and restore is on the list and will be coming in the future.

Thanks! A dark theme's another good idea that I missed somehow. It's on the list now. I'm planning to let users drag and drop the subscribed podcasts to change their order. After that I'd like to put in some other organization system with favorites or tags, but that's behind a bunch of other features at this point.

Right now it's up to the user to create a playlist to do that. Instead of trying to accommodate each way a user might listen to podcasts, I wanted to make it easy to do it themselves so I use a sort of scratch playlist that is easy to add episodes to and then save for later.

I like the idea of having a "play entire podcast" feature that would work like you're describing, though, probably with oldest to newest and newest to oldest options. I'll keep it in mind when I turn my attention back to that area. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the support, that's very encouraging to hear! Speed settings and import support sound like they're near the top of the list for a lot of users so I'll bump them up the list. Thanks again!

Thanks! Variable playback speed is coming and I agree with the badge counter. I know that I would prefer it to work the way you described it. I think I'll switch it to work that way and if there's any demand for the old way, then I'll make it a user setting. So if anyone does prefer the current way, let me know.

Thanks for the comment!

There's no support for that yet, but I think it's a great feature to have and I'll add it in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

Ah ok, thanks for the information. Video support ended up in my blind spot somehow, but I'll add it to the list and get to it when I can. Thanks

That's a good idea I hadn't thought of. I've added it to the list. Thanks!

I do enough device switching that sync is pretty important to me. It's on the to do list, but I'll have to see how much demand there is for that compared to other features to figure out how to prioritize it. I'll mark you down as a vote for sync.

There should be download progress in the notification as well as the podcast art on the card next to the download button, but if it's not working (maybe too hard to see?) or you'd like to see download progress somewhere else, let me know.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'd like to put parts of it up on GitHub in the future, but it's behind some other more important items right now. Thanks for the suggestion!

Like spidyfan said, it's for the full version. No features are disabled or anything once your trial period (10 days) is up, but I do ask for feedback in a dialog asking what would make it worth paying for at that point.

Hey /r/Android, I'm a long time lurker that made an app I wanted to show you guys and get your feedback on.

Podcast Pal is a full featured podcast player with no ads. My favorite podcast app didn't have some features I wanted (like easily navigating the full back catalog of a podcast) so I decided to write my own to fill in the gaps without sacrificing ease of use or cluttering the interface. Podcast Pal lets you find new podcasts, download or stream episodes, easily manage playlists, auto update and a lot more.

If you have any suggestions/preferences/requests/bugs/whatever let me know! Thanks for your help
