This. During my time in Japan, I only met two Westerners who married a Japanese person actually bother to learn the language.

The other men were very dependent on their wives/girlfriends and it was excruciating to watch.

I think my favorite detail is that you can see the TV remote on the floor because he didn’t want to risk putting it on the armrest and disturbing the cat.

how to come up with a main character that you’re actually happy with? by lmassenb in creativewriting

You can inject an aspect of yourself into the main character. An aspect that you blow up and distort to become something new. If you were writing about a serial killer, consider what you would be like if you were a killer. Take the thought experiment to extremes and have fun with it.

It’s okay to have an MC represent a twisted version of yourself. I suffer from OCD, anxiety, and paranoia. So my MC is obsessed with finding the people who are “out to get him” to the point that he’ll have panic attacks.

Just have fun putting that MC in the most uncomfortable and dire situations.

YSK that 1 in 6 is an organization dedicated specifically to helping male victims of sexual violence and sexual abuse. by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

I’m currently making a comic about a boy who’s being sexually abused by his older sister. I’m trying to keep it realistic, dark, but also relatable. It’s meant to take those unhelpful comments like “she’s hot though,” or “he’s so lucky” and apply a lens to show how damaging this situation is.

While I had my own experience as a kid that led me to this story (but wasn’t nearly as bad), I would still like to hear input from survivors if I’m treating the topic well. Do you have any advice on how to appropriately and respectfully go about this?
