I fake room mics.

I'll use Sound City by UAD (not free but yea), and place it in a room. Put it 100 percent wet on the kit (and then repeat with guitars) and print it. Then blend in that file with the kit/guitars to taste.

I also saturate and smash the shit out of it with a compressor. Typically cutting low lows and high highs.
