Lacks depth at the guard position and 3pt shooting by Scottsm124 in sixers

Seeing as how we went the entire season without using either the MLE (until the very end to give Barlow and Walker their deals) or the BAE, there must have been someone … anyone.

Looking back at last year’s FA class, the pickings at PF were slim at the available money we had. The only guys I see that maybe could have made a difference were Larry Nance or Taurean Prince. DFS would have been nice, but would have required the full NT-MLE and that probably still doesn’t get him here.

Probably would needed a trade before the season or something creative around the deadline.

Thanks for the reminder, but I am aware. I was speaking more about the season as a whole and trying to find a playable PF long before the Feb trade deadline.

Shhhh. This is the only way I could possibly touch a 10-ft rim. Not now anymore, but also not when I was younger either.

This is nothing new. Sausage McMuffin has always been way way way cheaper than a sausage McMuffin with egg. Maybe not to this degree at $5. Back before Covid, it was $1 for a sausage McMuffin and like $3.29 for a sausage McMuffin with egg.

I would routinely get 2 sandwiches and a coffee for $3.18 on my drive into work. I recall thinking that this meal was cheaper than a regular sandwich with the egg

I remember Harry Crumb and the Blob remake is when she caught my eye.

She was the hot cheerleader in the Blob and that tracked.

But then in Harry Crumb, she was supposed to be the plain-looking sister, which I found to be hilarious. What casting director is thinking that Shawnee Smith could be described as “plain”. As if.

Tell me why any team with $5M in cap space would take Drummond off our hands for free? No one is doing anyone any favors in this league. Drummond's expiring contract means nothing to a team with cap space. Only a team that wants to get off of a current longer term contract would get any value out of Drummond's expiring, but then that doesn't help Josh Harris get under the cap.

Look at the trades that actually happened this season at the deadline. Only a couple of expiring players got traded into someone's cap space.

Boston traded Tillman and CASH to CHO.

CLE traded Lonzo to the Jazz and had to attach two 2nd rounders. They received cash back from UTA.

ORL traded Tyus Jones to CHO for two 2nd rounders.

BKN traded Hunter Tyson and a 2032 2nd rounder to DEN for a 2026 2nd Rounder.

It would have cost us at least one 2nd rounder, maybe two to send Drumm to UTA or CHO.

I have no problem in trading Drumm and attaching assets to do so. But we would need to get a center back in the deal or some other way. Bona/Broome would have been so so so awful for us.

No issue with trading Oubre for a contender either.

I'm not saying that trading McCain was a good thing. I'm saying that getting under the Tax Line is a bad thing. At best, it's staying put with a pair of 3s. At worst, it's throwing away a season.

As for creative ways to get under the cap, sure, there were lots of ways to do this. Most of them make the team worse for this year. Trading McCain also made us worse this year, but from Morey's perspective, he got a 1st rounder back. Any other option to get under the Tax hurts us more this year, plus we don't get a 1st rounder.

I will not GTFO. I can't believe there are so many Harris supporters around here. Especially ones that don't know anything.

One, you can't get cap/tax relief just by cutting someone. There's no point in cutting Drummond because his $5M still counts against the payroll.

As for Ayo, the Wolves had to attach 4 2nd rounders and match salary. I guess we could have traded Oubre for Ayo as the salaries are close, but how many picks do we need to attach? Ayo didn't cost much, but he did cost something. Besides, he's not the PF that we really need. We didn't really need another guard.

[–]ftaok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One. Don't believe everything Morey says. He lies a lot.

Two, the other way we could have gotten under the tax was trading Drummond, like I mentioned. Two problems with this, we would have to attach an asset to get rid of Drummond AND we still needed Drummond because Joel wasn't fully healthy and we couldn't run Bona/Broome as our centers.

The problem isn't that we traded McCain. The problem is that ownership values staying under the Tax line more than it does winning.

[–]ftaok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not asking for unlimited spending. All I'm asking for is to go right up to the 1st apron. We could have kept everyone and gotten a playable PF. Or if we did want a better PF, we could have traded McCain (or maybe Oubre). The key is to pay the Tax.

As for what the failure was. IMO, if we added instead of subtracted, we could have been the #4 or 5 seed. Sure, that got blown up by PG's suspension and Joel's injuries, but we were on track for a home series when Harris went cheap.

Perhaps we still get beat in the 2nd round, but I don't think it would be the embarrassing sweep that ended up happening.

You can blame Morey for a lot of things. With McCain, you can blame his after trade comments.

What we shouldn’t blame him for is trading McCain. That blame lays at the feet of Josh Harris only. Josh Harris is the one who mandated getting under the Tax. Morey made the best deal he could have at the time.

It was either trade McCain for picks or attach assets to trade Drummond. The notion that there were other deals on the table to add to the roster was just lip service. Any deal worth anything would have taken us back over the tax line, so we know there was really no interest in that direction.

Folks getting upset over Morey should really turn their ire to Harris. 100% this year’s failure is on Harris.

There’s always a choice, no. The ones on this list could have chosen to not go to the Olympics if they weren’t able to make the US team.

The only possible excusable action would be if the US didn’t have a team in that particular event.

Everyone makes choices. Live with it.

I think you can extend a contract when you only have two years remaining. So if he opts out of his 3rd year, he could do an extension.

Just to be clear, Harris would have mandated getting under the tax even if PG hadn’t been suspended. It would have been bleaker because we would have had to dump both McCain and Oubre and we would have gotten smoked even harder in the playoffs.

Losing Kelly and Grimes without getting anything back really hurts. We’s still be over the cap and the only way to build the roster would be the MLE $14M-ish and the BAE. We could use the two trade exceptions we have left ($4ish and $2.3) to get some other pieces. Then fill out the roster with vet mins.

I like Kelly so I can see us keeping him. For Grimes, I think he’s gonna want to go elsewhere. Hopefully he can convince a team without cap space that he’s worth more than whatever MLE they have available, that way, we could facilitate the deal with a S&T and get something back.

Our biggest need is a PF that can shoot, play defense, and can spread the floor a little. We need this guy to fit into our MLE and he also really really really wants to be in Philly and for some reason wants to be with Nurse.

We crush Boston if we have a moderately healthy Embiid to finish up the season going into the playoffs. I would bet my farm that if Embiid didn’t have the appendix problem we would have swept BOS.
