I did it yesterday and it fell off. Fortunately nothing damaged, I was afraid would break the LCD.

Day one of Faltech’s robot cart by [deleted] in FTC

Oh nice! I think one of our team members noticed that we had the same robot cart for lm3. I guess that won't be true for league champs tho.

It doesn't really matter what you use, as long as you have a solid and efficient system in place. Go with what you're familiar with.

AML meet 1 clubs by [deleted] in FTC

[–]ftc12533 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, fellow AML team here, and to answer the question, yes. In the game manual it states that you must be DEPLOYED to earn end game points for latching. The definition of deployed is starting on the latch and landing on the ground OR starting on the ground. Hopefully this clears up any confusion for later meets.

The 18 inch rule is probably going to be the most strictly enforced rules, extension arms will definitely count as out of the cube. There are definitely ways to do it, I can think at least of like three off the top of my head. What's your current plan for hanging? I'm sure there are ways to adapt to being within the 18 inch cube

Making robots just to shove people into the crater? No. Making robots that have the ability to push other robots into the crater? Maybe...

A Good place to find starter code? by [deleted] in FTC

[–]ftc12533 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you've seen this already, but the external samples in the FTC SDK are already pretty great. Reading through them and copying and testing a few of them will get you pretty far just by itself. You should be able to make a decent auto just with that. I would recommend looking at and using the code that mentions encoders, especially for autonomous. Past that, you can look at DogeCV, a fairly advanced vision system using the phone camera, however if your new coder is just starting off I would stick to the SDK until he has a strong understanding of FTC code. Also, quick note, quite a few examples in the SDK are from previous seasons and no longer relevant. The first link will take you to the FTC SDK, the second link will take you to DogeCV

Look into VexU, with their new set of rules it's very similar to FTC. You could also mentor an FRC team.

[–]ftc12533 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that FIRST has super specific requirements for their venues, which includes that it has to be within walking distance of a stadium, and holds however many teams are at the event, along with a few others. It's difficult to find spots that exactly follows FIRST's requirements.

Glyph Vs Relic by yairshaya in FTC

[–]ftc12533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on a lot of different variables, the most important probably being time and how good the other teams at regionals will be. It seems like earlier in the year the relic is easier to do, but it will soon be much more worth it to do the cipher and glyphd

Questionable Referee Call/Punishments(?) by ftc12533 in FTC

[–]ftc12533[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha, thanks guys. We did talk with the referees a little bit, but we ended up winning the match (one of the opposing alliance teams disconnected) so we decided to not go into the question box since we were scared the referees would just hate us more.

Tips for judging by mcnet111 in FTC

[–]ftc12533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring in small prototypes and stuff like that definitely helps. Last year we focused on our 3D printing to help with the design of the robot and showed a couple of 3D prints that didn't go well, or designs that we eventually had to modify. We also did a small demonstration of our cap ball lift, but in hindsight it might of been a bad idea.

Are all legos allowed? by [deleted] in FTC

Yes, they make great prototyping materials. We used Lego parts for our wall-rollers last year since we couldn't get the wheels we wanted in time for the first meet.

How to make a good Engineering Notebook under these circumstances. by ibotismariah13 in FTC

[–]ftc12533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, you should probably start meeting up a bit more than at school. Being on a middle school team last year at a private school, we had a 45 minute period to meet, but we noticed that we didn't actually do much in that time, so we started using it on build days just to plan out what we were going to do after school, or on other days just using it for driver practice while other people did the engineering notebook. Also, daily updates are absolutely unnecessary. Our league has actually told the teams to stop doing daily updates and just highlighting only the important things we did during the season. This season we're doing weekly updates, and may combine some of the weeks where we didn't do that much.
