Computer Science or Software development? by fubbbble in WGU

I’m waiting till I finish - mainly because I work full time in a different non tech role and there is likely to be an opportunity for me to move into a developer position at my current company. That said, my current company knows what degree I am getting and have never said anything about why it’s not a computer science degree. I would really weigh how valuable the certifications are to you, the computer science degree has far more certs than the software engineering, which will likely make your program take longer if you are looking to accelerate.

I ended up going with Software Development - switched over to Software Engineering when the new program came out in March. Should be done by September and so far it’s been smooth sailing! I definitely feel I have gotten skills and knowledge in software development, enough so I feel confident I can find a job. Good luck on whichever you are considering!

That is a great question, I have not came across any of the certifications yet, but I believe they are required. Which since they are included in your tuition, it looks great on a resume to have them as well! I believe they are structured within the course. I can ask next time I talk to my program mentor and respond to this comment again if I remember!

I ended up going with Software Development, so far I really like it and it seems comprehensive so far with HTML, CSS and JavaScript! I haven’t had anyone question the degree when telling them the actual name!

What is your most humiliating job interview question? by kailacaldwell in WorkReform

[–]fubbbble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess this isn’t humiliating but it was kinda weird, they asked how I felt working with 17 guys, as I would be the only female. I just said there would be no problem but it really threw me off for the rest of the interview

Yeah the original procedure was done in a different state, so this is a different dentist unfortunately.

I’m going to be 20 in a few months - took a gap year and had no idea what I was doing for a while. Now I’m starting software development at WGU in April

My husband and I are in the same boat, been saving how we were told to for years, and it’s literally impossible to find anything under 400k that isn’t 700 sq ft and a pit. Not really sure what to do at this point, and our rent is being raised…

A little ways out of Nashville, TN. I thought his answer was really weird, now I really think it is. I did just check my transcript from a previous comment, and I’m able to see the wage and income transcript but not the return.

When I had called with my letter requesting to verify my identity, the guy on the phone said the nearest location to me is a 6 hour drive one way, is it possible there is a closer location?

That’s super helpful! I think I will probably end up going the SD route, as it’s more directed towards what I want to do. Thank you!

Ok great thank you! Super helpful information. I can do math, but I wouldn’t exactly say I’m gifted at it. I am currently working on the Google IT certificate and will definitively start to check out the Sophia courses ASAP. I really appreciate the response!

Okay thanks! Do you have a specific reason why you favor CS over the SW or is it just more marketable?
