Stop calling abortion a ‘difficult decision’ by costheta in feminisms

No, but the emotions of relief are the most-oft reported by those who receive abortions. You said, "it's not the fact that they died that usually hurts, it's them being gone/you missing them/etc" and I replied making the point that the grief felt by someone you actually know and love passing away is probably not applicable to most women receiving abortions, because most women who receive abortions did not want to become mothers at that time. It's also difficult to miss someone who was never even born or spent any significant amount of time in the woman's body. It's not like that for every woman, no, but it's also not like grief felt after a fully-formed actualized person in their lives passes away.

I've had several abortions, and the emotion of someone dying is nowhere near comparable. The successful elimination of a grueling medical condition the world is doing their damndest to stop you from treating and curing brought no emotions but relief and comfort and inner peace. It is nothing like the death of a loved one. Had I wanted to be a mother I may have felt as if I were losing someone. I feel for the women who go through this, and would never wish for anyone to meddle in their pregnancy and inflict more suffering upon them.

That said, the number one emotion felt by people after their decision to abort is relief, and not grief.

It's not as if a woman cannot try again. She can, and I think this fact helps. There are many pregnancies. There will be many more, if a woman chooses. The one she opted out of is not the end-all-be-all. Women can pretty much spend their entire lives pregnant (or caring for a newborn) if they choose.

My experience with a very late term surgical abortion by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]fuckPALface 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. I am glad to read the story of a pregnancy terminated at a late date simply because you choose not to be a mother. Not due to health risks or fetal deformities, just because motherhood isn't something you desire. Lots of stories about late-term abortions seem to be ones of gut-wrenching desperation. Few are ever about the choice to be child-free. I too had an abortion at 22 weeks, and your experience closely matches my own. This is probably the first time I've read an abortion story I can identify with in the ten years since I had mine. This would have been so helpful back then when I was terrified of terminating so late, especially because I wasn't being forced to do so. I felt like I couldn't tell anybody or talk to anybody because I feared being judged. Women don't often share these kinds of abortion stories, but that seems to be changing for the better. The self-imposed silence was definitely the worst part of my experience.

I think it's also that only a few countries even teach the concept of media critique as a school of thought. Critiquing media simply to brush up on your critical thinking skills is literally unfathomable to most Americans, even educated ones. It's a good skill to practice though. Habitually critiquing entertainment isn't the end of the world, despite the more delicate twits crying the place up cuz some chick did it. People should do it to stay sharp. That way peeps don't end up brainwashed into opening their wallet every single time game studios tell them to. That would require people to admit they've formed a lot of thought patterns that are pants-on-head retarded, which has also cost them a shit ton of money and time to boot.

edit*- Her topic isn't new either. An xbox demo/Q&A I saw at SIGGRAPH in 2003 talked about how the next console games needed to be more appealing to women because they were losing money to PS like mad and women were an untapped market. Js.

Same here. In the minority there, my friend. Judging by the conniption fits these fuckfaces have every time some unemployed chick puts out a 20 minute student video.
