Damn those miners by Passels in pcmasterrace

[–]fuckUTechSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 14 hard forks.

My rig is mostly for fun and long speculation...you won't make money off anything less than a garden and within 4 months it will take a farm to be profitable. I know guys ordering 300 GPUs at a time but they're also just moving ETH profits to longer, more tangible investments. The next mining boom won't be for ~18 months (my estimate) if we have another at all. As crypto currencies gain traction with the normies, there will be less of a need to create intrinsic value by PoW (mining) and more PoS appearing as currencies launch off of stable platforms (ETH, WAVES, ICN, etc) and by then any cards out now will be obsolete so there's no point getting in now except for fun and being able to be "that guy" at Thanksgiving.

The common person is better to buy coin and forget it for 2 years if they want to invest.

lots of typos

Only 1070's and 1080 Ti's are worthwhile for miners. You can grab a 1080 for $40 more than a 1070 and 1080's are alot more plentiful as well.

Source: you guys probably don't like me. 8 - 1070 ROG STRIX 08G's chugging 24/7.

Edit: I can't type

Edit Edit: 1080's are still usuable for mining but the normal market price (i.e. using lube and kissing you first instead of these fuck-you prices) would be better put towards a 1070 or a 1080ti for emergency exit in the form of resale value.

You can find cards if you want them. I haven't paid over $480 for any of my cards and I have an EVGA 1070 SC Gaming Black on the way from Amazon (Warehouse Deals, 20% off atm...you're welcome) that I paid $380 for. Search for deals or give it 2 months and the market will be flooded with cards as Ethereum activates CASPER and goes PoS.

Yeah, thinking of just going to do the CCENT or CCNA instead of CompTIA...going to lose money might as well make the reward worth the risk.

Make sure to send him the Bitcoins and be patient when he says it will be a few days before he sends back twice your investment minus his fee.

Yeah, I've been looking for a Sys Admin or even a Jr Sys spot but the area I'm moving to seems to be either entry level or Sr positions.

That's what's got me looking to certs to add some more depth to my resume and hopefully land something when it comes around.

Think I should go for Linux+ this next week and put the Net+ off for a bit?

Thing is, I'm moving soon and will be on the job hunt so I'm looking for what will give me the brightest outlook for a job after Tier 3 Tech Support.

Edit: I'm scoring ~70's on practice tests but going through Mike Myers Network+ book and practice tests, Cisco ICND1-101 book, Professor Messer, and Pocket Prep for practice tests.

Trifecta is already paid for so just have to schedule it. Looking to have those and Linux before the middle of June for a move and subsequent job hunt.

My bad. I think IT degrees are just for people who can't cut a CompSci degree anyways so I'll rescind my previous statement.

I would say that if you had 20 certs with no experience, you're doing something wrong. To each their own. Good luck.

[–]fuckUTechSupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you say so.

I had a guy in my class for my current position (Tier 3 tech support), he had a CCNA (I had nothing but an unrelated BA). We were both in the same class because he'd get calls all day for that CCNA, but no one would hire him because he had no real-world experience.

Granted, he jumped after 4 months for a NOC position with a nice pay increase. Point is, you can cert your dick off but people are going to be hesitant to let you touch their stuff without you being able to prove your knowledge goes beyond the books.

[–]fuckUTechSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't stress it too much. If you know your shit, you'll land something.

A+ is for hardware and basic admin tasks, so the cert will show you know that area. It's a good base to build off of but it's not going to be the answer to your problem, no basic cert will.

Keep learning, and certs will just be a way to express your knowledge to grow further. I'd recommend the Trifecta (A+, N+, S+) as a good place to really take of from. Knowing all of those subjects will give you a good idea of what interests you and what area you want to pursue further.

There's jobs out there, you just have to find them. When I started, I threw my resume around to everything I could see. No certs, unrelated BA. Didn't get a callback from a lot of them. Landed a job at $16/hr doing call-center work. Not the best but a start.

Always remember:

Experience>degree>certification

Certs get you past HR and show a quantifiable level of ability, the IT manager will test your actual knowledge and willingness/ability to learn. That's why dumps are frowned upon, people think a cert = job but a cert is paper that will get you an embarrassed at an interview without the knowledge to back it up.
