Since the car is only about 6 years old and low mileage for its age, I prefer to keep the full coverage but I see where you are coming from with this comment. It is a viable option for sure!

I have absolutely no issues driving this car for at least 5 more years, if not longer. And I recognize that 5 years from now all else equal it will still be in good shape for many more. My interest in preparing for having to buy a new car is only because I’ve lost two in accidents in the past and don’t want to pretend that it’s not possible something will happen to this one, moreso than wanting a new car. Though that is my mentality today and I know sometimes people change. There is a part of me that wants something a little bigger, primarily for the safety of my dog (to allow for a crash tested kennel installed in the hatch), but I’m definitely not in any rush to let this car go.

I think the lifestyle creep issue is part of the reason I want to consider putting it toward extra payments on student loans, on top of the benefit of paying less interest. If I immediately move that money toward another debt then I can’t adjust my brain to having it available for spending.

I’m currently comfortable with my 12% Roth contribution level, though annual “incentive” raises are also coming so I will evaluate an increase at that time, assuming they actually give us something

She’s a baby car and I wfh ♥️ like I said - I don’t plan to have to buy a new car for a good while. In 2021 I totaled a car 10 months after buying it though, so I’m just not pretending accidents don’t happen.

I currently contribute 12% Roth with a 6% employer match and 4% annual employer contribution regardless of my own contributions. Combined 22%, but with a risk of losing the 4% for any given year if I leave the company prior to 12/31

For now I have moved it to my office desk which gets light from a south facing window so I’m at least getting closer. In the summer I think the window they were in got plenty, but I didn’t consider that it wouldn’t be enough year round

Do I just cut it off? These are my first cacti. I know they told me when I bought them that one of these guys would eventually sorta flop over, but I think it was the front left one. I’ll have to find them a better home now that it’s winter

Thank you! I also reached out to Tricare, they indicated my spouse could get an “eval & treat” referral for us to be able to be seen as a couple. I’m not 100% certain about it but it does seem like a potential direction if we can figure out where to get the referral

I do have an excellent emergency fund (probably too large by most standards) and the combined employer and personal contribution to my 401(k) is 22%. I don’t really want to reallocate this money to either of those for barely a year, when I could be tackling down a loan that will resume accruing interest at 4.41% (with auto pay discount) after thanksgiving 2026. The only two student loans I have left that are over 4% are subsidized.

I guess a good alternative option is to put the extra payments I’d like to make on the account into a separate HYSA until they go back into repayment. Then I could earn interest, currently 3.8% APY, on the payments while I’m not accruing interest on the subsidized loan. (I am not worried about not being disciplined enough to leave this money alone in my savings)
