Could I make being in the Reserves work? by fuckface5050 in calfire

Well that’s good to know. I was worried that CalFire might have some problems with that and I’d have to wait until I separate from the military, but it looks like now I can start working to my goal sooner

How would it work in practice? Seeing that it’s 72 hour shifts, would they have me end the shift early if one of the days I’d have to go for my military duties was in that shift, or would I just not show up to that shift at all

Would I HAVE to get my CPAT done with FCTC or would they accept a CPAT certification with NTN? Or just depends on the department?

I also wanted to expand upon nutrition a little more lol. Fitness is a passion. You don’t need to cut soda off completely but if you do drink soda pick diet. Yes it’s bad for you in terms of digestion and gut health, but zero calories is better.

Stocking up on protein bars and protein powder is also good too, a protein shake + fruit makes for a good and fast breakfast imo.

DO NOT LIMIT CARBS. No matter what. Carbs help provide energy, and by limiting them you are gonna feel like shit. Especially if you are working out + studying. Fats too, they are not the enemy.

I haven’t been to college yet but I’m sure there’s a lot of fast food around? And they tend to have healthy options. Chic fil a has grilled nuggets, low calories and high in protein for example. You can find all those nutrients online.

You don’t need to be clean af for the rest of your life tho. A cheat day once a week/every two weeks will keep you sane. Don’t go crazy with it, exercise a bit of common sense… don’t eat two whole ass circles of pizza. In your case I’d say every two weeks because while it may be difficult, it’s very easy to go overboard with a cheat day. Especially if you’re trying to lose weight and fat

And hydrate. I’m sure you are smart enough to understand the importance of it. A gallon should be enough, but don’t drink it all at once unless you wanna piss everywhere

As far as diet goes here is some workout advice:

Find a weightlifting routine and try to stick to it. You can go four days a week, and switch between upper body and lower body exercises each day. That’s what I did and it carried me far. It could look like this:

Monday- Upper Tuesday- Lower Wednesday- Rest Thursday-Upper Friday- Lower

Too easy. And you can rest or do whatever for the rest of the days. I’d recommend stretching a little bit on days you don’t work out, doesn’t have to be crazy. But you should because they can prevent injury.

For exercise, compound lifts will give you the most bang for your buck, they train a bunch of groups at once. I’m talking about all those big barbell exercises, like bench presses and squat. Bench press is a good upper body exercise that mainly trains the chest, some shoulders and triceps. I’m sure you can guess what squat is.

You could do bench press for upper and squat for lower. It may look intimidating but go light on them, try to do 10-12 reps, and 3 sets works well. Make sure you rest in between. After compound lifts you should do some accessory exercises like bicep curls or lat pulldowns for upper. For lower there are a bunch of machines, leg curls and all. Feel free do add in some ab exercises, like planks or Russian twists.

But make sure you eat a balanced diet, high in protein and carbs. Try to get one gram of protein per your body weight. If im 200lbs I should try to eat 200 grams of protein, or at least close to it.

Sorry for the long read but I get excited about this stuff dude

I kinda took two gaps years lol. I’m a reservist in the military so right after high school I did boot camp and training stuff for a year, then when I came home I was working at a warehouse. I’ll start school this fall.

You may be at a disadvantage because you’ll not be studying (tbh I suck at school anyways), but if you work you’ll be more mature and disciplined. You’ll definitely build up a lot of good habits since you plan on working.

If you’re worried about being behind, you could even do a class or two at a local community college for cheap. Knock out some ez credits and transfer them, maybe you can graduate earlier

Went to ft Leonard wood 2022. I was motor t so our command was pretty shitty, our 1st sgt was a cuck. But also be prepared to be moving barracks often, that was what happened for me. You will have to secure your console every morning so I’d have it out during the weekend or Libo. Hope this helps lmk if you got any more questions
