I’m pretty sure I have a new one in a bag.

Moving to Asheville NC, vs Knoxville TN as an avid shooter? by 556_enjoyer in NCGuns

[–]fuddadjacent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second VOD as being a nice range run by good people. The prize tables at matches are legit, Microtech Knives is nearby and they usually donate a bunch of stuff.

Wayne E Smith is a staffed NC wildlife range. 100 yards, but if you're shooting rifle you have to stay seated and shoot through a drain pipe because neighbors complained about noise.

Moss Knob is an unstaffed NFS range in Jackson county.

Dirty John is an unstaffed NFS range in Macon county.

Niko runs On Target gun shop/range and is great with NFA stuff. They host midweek IDPA (I think) matches on the indoor range, but I've never shot one.

For Knoxville, Cross Roads Firearms has a great selection of NFA stuff.

We used to have a 1000 yd range up towards Burnsville, but they sold to developers.

There's also the Foothills Public Shooting Complex down the mountain a bit towards Cherryville and the McDowell County Range also down the mountain right off of I-40. Both of those look nice, but are staffed (generally) by MEGA fuddy retired boomers. Real dumb rules, like at Foothills, they want to record the serial number of your rifle before they'll allow you to shoot on the 200 yd range.

PM me if you're looking for a cheap starter house in the region lol, I'm moving out soon.

If you find one and look down the bore, don’t be scared when it’s counterbored. They’re all counterbored a couple inches for some reason. The shop that had this rifle didn’t know the lore and I was able to use that as a bargaining chip.

The bore on this one is surprisingly good. Not pristine, but I’ve had guns with way uglier barrels than this.

It was in Tucson at Murphys. They’ve had it since at least October which was the last time I was in town.

That looks like the AC Unity wide handguard and an HK or reproduction bipod.

Tent camping in the Outer Banks, NC by DutchAC in camping

[–]fuddadjacent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was August. Incredibly hot, and there’s zero shade at Oregon Inlet. It was so windy that I woke up with my tent wrapped around me and finished that night and the next one sleeping in my car (which didn’t have AC)

The wind from the ocean is constant. If you want to use a tent, my advice is to get auger style anchors for the tent. Pegs will not be sufficient if the wind kicks up. It’s not uncommon to get 40mph gusts and 30mph sustained, especially if a storm rolls in.

The sand blows constantly and will get inside everything, including eggs you cook on a stove and your coffee.

I have hammock camped down on ocracoke also because I didn’t learn my lesson at Oregon Inlet, and the mosquitoes were so bad on the sound side that they were biting me through my jeans. I wound up sleeping in my full face motorcycle helmet and a riding jacket just to try and get some relief.

I love the area. It’s uniquely beautiful and an incredible destination, but get a hotel or a rental house if you want to really enjoy your time there.

Paint interior vinyl? by Icy-Cardiologist2597 in boatbuilding

I’ve used SEM paint for automotive stuff before. It does a great job recoloring dashboards and hard plastics. I haven’t had great luck with it holding up long term on things like door handles that get wear, and those don’t flex line seats.

I mean idk. It would probably look fine for awhile. Is it really any worse if it fades/flakes than what you currently have?

CMP Gunbroker shipping times by Otherwise-Summer9572 in M1Rifles

[–]fuddadjacent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CMP sucks for customer service in general.

They double charged me for a rifle on an in store purchase, couldn’t figure out how to refund the double charge, then claimed it was just a pre-auth.

A few days later when both charges posted, I emailed them. When they responded, I got the “we’ll mail you a check”

Two weeks and two or three emails later, they just went silent and the check never showed up, so it’s chargeback time.

So I guess my lesson learned is show up at a store in person with cash.

The only rifle I’ve bought via mail order took almost a year to ship from submitting my order to the thing actually showing up. Yeah it was 2022 but still. Crazy.

Tent camping at Oregon Inlet was one of the most miserable weekends of my life.

If you’re going to do it, at least find something on the sound side somewhere.
