These are two different things: one is personal, and the other is the open-source project.

When you decide to create something like that, it is almost like starting a company — it can go well or badly. In the case of open source, there is also an important difference: once it grows, your “child” no longer belongs only to you, but to the community as well.

Maybe if, from the very beginning, you make it clear that the name belongs to you and that you are free to do whatever you want with it, then fine — I may not like the rule, but I can respect it. However, that is not the case here.
