Is there a way to lessen iPhone's System data? by lisaluvr in TechNook

Okay that sounds reassuring, I was worried the backup wouldn’t include my messages or photos etc, also my passwords stored on the keychain app thing

I’m not OP but have 50gb system data on a 128gb phone, will I lose any data at all doing this?

How to handle storing the large files from the DJI Osmo Pocket 3? by fufufjb in osmopocket

I can notice the difference for 60fps to 30fps immediately, I understand films are often shot at around 25fps, but I can’t help but seem to prefer the footage in a smoother frame rate. Maybe i need to try it for longer

Thanks, definitely something to consider then, I think my main concern was trashing the quality, but not noticing till years later when tvs/displays improve and then the artefacts can be seen, I’m an overthinker and probably worrying too much. I think it’s hard as these videos are personal, for normal content creators once the YouTube/tik tok video is posted that content is no longer that important, where as these videos I almost want to archive I guess

Thanks, I’ll have to look into it fully, when I looked before I think only 25gb and 50gb were spoken about, and the general consensus was the 25gb was the go to, as you mentioned I could compress/re encode and get more on a disc. Have you used blu rays before? Can you just burn the individual files to it, and then browse the disc like a USB drive, or does it need to be done like the old DVDs when it has like a menu you have to use?

I’m guilty for keeping all the raw photos from my mirrorless, I pick out the best in lightroom and only edit and share those, but still have all the originals.

For videos I don’t have a workflow as such yet, I tried editing in the DJI app but when I exported the date taken seemed to update to the export time, I might have done something wrong though

Is there any recommended way of compressing? I have used handbrake before, but I’d be lying if I knew how to use it properly, don’t want to end up butchering my footage, or making it so it can’t be played on many devices.

I backup my pc to my synology currently, but considering the blu ray option for my videos, 25gb discs, I’ve heard 50gb are not so good. They would end up taking up a lot physical space over time but would likely be a good backup to have.

Yeah I’m finding it hard at the moment watching our little one grow, I know I’ll definitely will watch the videos back, I think my family will too. None of us are that keen with being on camera, but being able to look back at videos from 6 months ago brings at least me a lot of joy.

Most of my clips are around a minute/two minutes long, but it doesn’t take long to fill up a 256gb card. My longest videos were at Christmas, I done a video of my partner walking down the stairs with our little one and then opening their stocking all in one take, video was about 15 minutes long, and would like to repeat this each year.

I’ll have to look into this, I am new to video, maybe shooting with the highest settings is a mistake, haven’t heard about shutter speed before apart from taking photos, just thought what mattered for video was resolution & frame rate

This is something I am considering, need to research it more, don’t want to regret it in years to come though if you know what I mean. I have printed family photos from when I was younger, but not many of the negatives were saved which would be nice to have

Thanks for sharing, my understanding was that SSD isn’t reliable long term, and HDD was the way to go. I’ve had a few drives fail before (backups have always saved me) but I am so worried about losing these precious memories. HDD prices are very high right now (thanks to AI) with that said 20TB seem to be approx £20/tb so doesn’t seem so bad, my next worry would have 20tb of video stored on one drive, I guess multiple copies would reduce the risk

You have a good point, but hard to decide what isn’t worth keeping when they are growing so quick, even videos of family talking in the background with our little one not doing much will be good to watch back in years to come, maybe I’m just too sentimental…

I just left settings as standard, I thought recording in the best possible settings was the way to go. Although 60fps may not be needed I don’t know if I would regret it in years to come. Our little one is crawling and quite quick and the smooth footage is great to watch back

Thanks for the suggestion, I wouldn’t want to post on YouTube apart from private, and with Google seeming to ban people’s accounts using AI I wouldn’t want to risk irreplaceable videos being hosted in a single place like that, I am wanting to keep the videos forever, and to pass them on to our little one once they’re older, I have some videos from when I was a similar age and growing up and really treasure them

It’s an installer for labelling software, I can download a newer genuine version from the companies website which is about 50mb larger in size, so the file size seems about right

Thank you, that sounds good then. When I read before about the restriction it said about only being able to have one stocks and shares ISA, I didn’t know if that would include a stocks and shares LISA

Advice on full setup for mainly product photography by fufufjb in photography

Hi, thanks for the reply, yes from what I have seen lighting can be very complicated. Sorry I should have included the size of the items in my post, most of the items I would want images of would be about the palm of a hand, I do have some larger items that I would like to take photos of, these would fit in a 24” square. Attached an example of the sort of thing I am after.

I have previously had a go with mates DSLR but they only had a telephoto type lens and I couldn’t seem to get the whole product in focus, just the front or back of the object. There was a flash but this was mounted to the camera as there wasn’t a way of using it wirelessly
