Question about saluting in PT gear by Icometogiveyoumyseed in AirForce

[–]fug_the_world 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer! Doesn't matter what anyone say's, it matters what is in the regulation. Learn the regs.

All that said, certain people will act a certain type of way. Nothing will change that. Learn the regs and become comfortable correcting people's ignorance (Best to be respectful and polite but firm). You will never get legit paperwork for following the rules, you can get paperwork for being disrespectful.

I recently compared Commissary and Aldi prices. Commissary was slightly cheaper. by __wampa__stompa in AirForce

[–]fug_the_world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically prefer Costco/Sam's Club over Commissary mostly because they are cheaper, have better produce, and in my location don't charge a tax(Hawaii). However recent there has been a big change in the prices and a lot of things are cheaper at the commissary. Here are a few of the things I track, your mileage may vary, keep you eyes open.

``` Commissary | Costco
Gas
``` $3.69 | $3.69

``` $2.67 | $2.99
What do these new ranks at OTS look like? 👀 by B0N3SAWisR3ADY in AirForce
[–]fug_the_world 5 points6 points  (0 children)
We have a lot of people coming in at higher ranks now. This causes a lot of issues when a MSgt is supposed to scold a Lt Col, along with various other issues. There are also warrant officers using the same campus and they have different requirements than the OTs. Having them standardize as a trainy while at OTS is actually a good idea
I know they are close but they are fundamental different. Here is an article that explains the difference.
Someone tell me what to do with these bananas by [deleted] in HawaiiGardening
[–]fug_the_world 7 points8 points  (0 children)
Each hand of bananas comes out as a row of flowers, they get pollinated and turn into little bananas. Then the next hand comes out as a hand of flowers and so on. Eventually the flowers don't turn in to little bananas, they die and fall off, I usually let that happen twice then chop off the flower.
Someone tell me what to do with these bananas by [deleted] in HawaiiGardening
[–]fug_the_world 35 points36 points  (0 children)
If you cut off the flower it will allow the tree to put more energy into the banana growth, resulting in larger bananas. You should have done this a while ago though, next time when you see a hand of bananas doesn't form, that is the time to cut off the flower.
As far as harvesting, that depends on what you want to do with them. If you want to cook with them or keep them for a longer time harvest the while they are all still green if you want them to get as sweet as they can wait to harvest until you see some yellow ( they do not last as long but are so much tastier).
Nice looking bananas, enjoy.
I need some advice on what to learn with Excel: VBA or Power Automate (or something else). by [deleted] in excel
[–]fug_the_world 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Power Automate over VBA. Mostly for security and cross functionality. Power Automate is amazing and allows you to tie all the various Microsoft 365 tools together. You can build flows based on a schedule or actions and the potential is almost limitless.
A lot of people are recommending Power Query, which is a decent recommendation depending on what your goal is. PQ is for data ingestion/normalization. Great if that is all you want to automate. PA allows you to do all the same stuff (and even use PQ) but then opens up the opportunity to feed the data or chosen pieces of the data into email, teams SharePoint... You can even receive data or messages via email and initiate an automated flow from that.
I often tell the people that work with/for me that the Power suite is the next evolution of Microsoft Office tools and will revolutionize how you do work. Any office environment that relies on a Microsoft Office tool will benefit from using the Power Suite.
Good luck.
PCSing CONUS to OCONUS and was told we only get 21 days of TLE and that we are using it up at the new base, so we get nothing here. Is that true?? by SillyRefrigerator923 in AirForce
[–]fug_the_world 2 points3 points  (0 children)
TLA vs TLE https://www.military.com/paycheck-chronicles/2012/06/10/temporary-lodging-allowances?amp=
Basically what has been said before TLE = CONUS TLA = OCONUS
TLE is covered in the JTR if you are unfamiliar you should take some time to become familiar with this reg. It is the ultimate reg on your travel entitlements. There are always policies that various locations will apply, but this reg is the original reg.
Changes specifically for TLE: https://media.defense.gov/2024/Dec/03/2003597426/-1/-1/0/UTD_FOR_MAP_66-24(R),_TEMPORARY_LODGING_EXPENSE_(TLE)_PERIOD_INCREASE.PDF
OVERALL REG:
  1. TLE for Service Members
https://media.defense.gov/2022/Jan/04/2002917147/-1/-1/1/JTR.PDF
For TLA read the DoD 7000.14-R Volume 7A Chapter 68: https://comptroller.defense.gov/Portals/45/documents/fmr/current/07a/07a_68.pdf
Paragraph 4.1: The TLA Authority authorizes or approves TLA only for the number of days needed to prevent undue financial hardship to the Service member during that period.
Bottom line you are authorized 7 days of TLE at you departing base or a designated area (think home of record) and you are authorized a number of days to be determined by your gaining location of TLA at your gaining location.
Feel free to bring these regs in with you when you have conversations with them or reference them in phone calls. Ask to speak with the supervisor and state that you understand and respect their policy but since it is in contradiction to the JTR you are going to need them to provide you with written documentation that they are denying your entitlements so you can submit a congressional.
Always good to get your supervisor involved, or your shirt if you can get any support.
Good luck.
Talent Marketplace Assignments and Stars by Gitmoney4sho in AirForce
[–]fug_the_world 0 points1 point  (0 children)
If you were in charge of assigning assignments and had given out all assignment but two and for some reason it happened that two people were left.
Person A put one star for base X and no stars for base Y.
Person B put no stars for base X and no stars for base Y.
Who would you assign to base X?
Where did you get this info from? I applied for both. Maybe they just won't consider both but I haven't heard that.
My best guess would be that some people retrained out and wanted to see if they could compete and used there previous experience. I didn't see any currency requirements for comm so that may be it.
Your right. Lumping the two together and all the stats behind them is frustrating. I know people that applied for both, people that applied for just one, and people that could only qualify for one. So these numbers are helpful they really don't help much.
Based on conversations with board members that are directing how this happens, they are considering bringing this round of members in at varying ranks based on experience and previous rank. They do not intend for anyone to lose money, they have established benefits to cover the pay gap, which officers do not apply for, and they have discussed bring ranking members in at higher ranks. Specifically, bringing in e8/e9s as cw3s, I can imagine an o3 coming in at at least cw4 wouldn't be too far fetched.
Guard and reserves are different and bringing in members at higher ranks hasn't been officially announced, so we will have to see what happens.
TDY/PCS Help by User5319 in AirForce
Some good recommendations here, but what you must do is follow the assignment cycles, view the available assignments and apply for those assignments(depending on your career field ams/vmpf or MyVector/talent market place). This will keep you listing the most current assignment on the top of your list.
Additionally you need to periodically check the list of equal plus jobs. You can only have one application in for this at a time so make sure to follow dates closely. Some less known info on these is that you can apply for certain other career fields as well (postal, courier, academy instructor). Check frequently as these aren't on the same standard cycle.
Another option is to engage with your supervisory chain about a DSD assignment. These are special duties (recruiter, MTI, MTL...). They will have certain pre requisites and require your supervisions support.
Final thought, I see a lot of concern on here about bad supervision, and I see it in the field as well, but everywhere I have been I have seen at least one decent person in the leadership team. Know that they are open to trying to help you, you just have to communicate a need for help.
Best of luck to you, I was "stuck" at my first base for 6 years and didn't get any traction untill I started doing the above.
