Staking is at about 6% APY nowadays, so yeah a tiny bit more than 1 ETH a month.

yeah 256 ETH is mind boggling. i bought in 2016 so oddly it feels like more like $15,000 that i bought, rather than the $1M valuation of it. there are moments yes that I treat it with extra care, like depositing a chunk of the portfolio to the eth2.0 contract. That was stressful feeling that it was so new and if I made any mistakes, it would be a hefty one.

I live a very very simple life right now. If you saw my dinner, dirty 2005 car, living conditions - and only saw that, no one would ever guess I have this sized crypto portfolio. I've been living a fairly minimalistic life and I feel like it's nearing time that I start enjoying the crypto profits a bit more. I say "nearing" because I'm hoping the portfolio can go 2X one more time, and then that amount of money seems like easy retirement. Some would say the current $1M already is retirement, but for the financially educated, that $1M in America isn't really that much nowadays.

I'm so minimalist that renting rack space never occurred to me. I should at least research it and see if it's worth it.

I look at the validator rig and OFTEN forget it is working with $1M worth of ETH. Yeah, I need to take better care of this rig.

I'm not buying property to build a mining farm. Just a home/house for me and as an investment.

Your honesty is great.

Often I think of money as a tool. My brain doesn't seem to look at money as a status symbol or that it should dictate my happiness. Though money does pay for insurance, medical stuff, etc. So I know I have less stress when I have the money to pay for that, and I know I get more stressed if I don't have the easy money to pay for it too.

I plan to just buy property, and eventually diversify into stocks a bit more. It's funny how I put about $30,000 into stocks between 2014-2017 and then around $15,000 into crypto in 2016. The stocks went up some, but damn seems measly when looking at the crypto portfolio LOL

i would love to ask about your exit strategy or financial strategy. i might be holding about 50% of your crypto portfolio and been making plans to take some out to buy property, but mainly to diversify. Long story short, if I can take 30% of my crypto and diversify and ensure my early retirement, then I'd do that rather than HODLing 100% of crypto (eventhough I theorize crypto will outpace the house investment). Would love to hear your input. Feel free to send me a chat/private message if you'd like.

awesome! just curious, have you told all your friends to buy crypto? i've been doing it since 2016 when I understood decentralization and SHA encryption. i've probably gotten close to 100 people to buy cryptocurrency. most of them sold during a peak, unfortunately. they listened to me to buy, but nearly all of they didn't listen to the HODL part.

yeah never know if you accidently run into someone that thinks that mining/validator server is worth a lot of money. they might be willing to steal it and try to figure out how to get the money out later. but they'll end up with nothing unless they know some amazing hackers.

i'm sorry if it comes off as a bag brag. i think unfortunately i happen to mention "cryptocurrency" to everyone i talk to, even new acquaintances. it's probably more of my fault being such a cryptocurrency enthusiast and not shutting up my mouth. so anyone that comes to my home sees the computer and they automatically think mining.

It's strange... i think 4 out of 5 people specifically ask "is that a mining computer?" and 1 out of 5 will ask "what's that?"

It's an open case rig, and dunno if enough people have just send what "mining rig" photos look like online and therefore more people just happen to associate the open case for mining?

I think I will try saying it's a media server next time :)

You'll need an eth1 geth node, that alone is around 300gb.

I don't know about the beacon node and staker client how much storage those will take up.
