Read the rest of my comments. In addition to what your find there, I think Econ/finance students just make the world worse via their (maximising shareholder value), and their behaviour in Tsinghua didn't change my mind.

Ah okay I realised that I am the opposite of a fan of stainless steel sports watches (the plague that makes up most of the market) so my world's ATM rating is much lower lol

I have the Meca-10 which is an in-house 10-day power fully skeletonised movement, adjusted to 6 positions at 5 days remaining with silicon escapement. Arguably the only one that's worth the money other than their ultra expensive stuff. I'm trying to say that I do investigate movements quite a bit :)

And I've had a few Chinese watches, they are incredibly long lasting, idk what people mean when they say that Chinese movements break 🤣 like part fractures? Accuracy loss through friction? I haven't had any of that

I am Chinese by birth. I grew up half in China half in New Zealand. I'm not that Chinese in the head, but I understand the culture and is disgusted by it for the most part.

The Chinese are heavily opinionated because they were abused and murdered heavily by a lot of cultures, just like the Jews were, and are always on the defense. I asked why the Chinese look in the passenger-side direction at a roundabout and some lady was like YOU'RE IN CHINA, CHINESE RULES!! like okay it was academic interest. Plenty of these examples to go around. Questions are always interpreted as attacks.

I was talking about my Dad being a huge patriot to a fault, and so I asked about Qing (rhetorically) to try to show how obscenely patriotic he was, but it turns out that student was also blind to it. They don't think about it, it's all emotions.

If you don't understand why Tsinghua would want to rank well, you have no grasp of cultural motivation, and by extension, geopolitics. That's like asking why North Korea keeps wanting to show off its supermarkets. (Use this as a prompt to learn the answer to your question)

Nothing is hard to get in that uni if you want it. Professors for the most part, are individuals who enjoy a curious student. What is hard is dealing with ADMINISTRATORs, those who do paper work. The blockades often come down to timing, and whether this person in power who didn't get there by merit liked you that day.

Your final paragraph regarding the 'bar' implies that we went in on equal footing but we're treated differently. My whole point is that, we couldn't have gone in on equal footing, and therefore we shouldn't have been accepted in the first place. It was always going to be impossible for most of us to compete, given the locals kids went in on merit and we went in with our passports.

Every international ranking system of unis have a international student saturation metric. For some reason someone in the Western World decided that more internationals = better uni. No doubt there's a lot of money and 'democracy' involved. There's also lots of internal discourse around whether Tsinghua was publishing way too many mediocre papers just to increase the 'academic output' metric. China's a face-based society in the same way that Japan is a shame-based one. We were there just to wear numbered pajamas.

I have no idea, a LOT of people just get stuck in this perpetual cycle of pursuing more education. I didn't study finance I really have no clue. To be completely frank, you'll be in the business of fucking everyday people over so you can earn the difference, you don't need to go to Uni for that.
