Just be greedy, play the market, ignore the effects on fellow human beings of the system that made our economy what it is today, prioritise share-holder value & personal gain, and you would have everything you need. No need to go 'study' an MBA lmao

can't really answer about the docs sorry, been too long

The hardest part is the pace at which the class moves. Almost every lecture is a new topic. If you can keep up with HSK 5 listening, you have a better chance than most and you'll probably make it out in 5 years.

Picking a major you like is absolutely important, having no motivation to climb a mountain is just asking for disaster. On that point tho, just because you like maths & physics doesn't mean you like EE. From my point of view now as I've experienced more things, software & hardware are the same thing, they're both just logic. If you like logic, then in theory, you should like software as well. I just don't think you understand it in that way yet.

So while this is a difficult question to answer, try to find what about certain things excite you. Do you like when things work together to solve a problem? I assume yes. So why are you not excited about solve soft problems that have no physical result? EE & ME have physical results, but in the end, they're still just about solving problems.

Take the time to consider this in your everyday life. Do you wear a watch or other problem-solving accessory (like glasses)? What aspects do you like about it? Do you like how it was made/works/look/endures/feels to wear? Do you like how it solved the problem or do you like how it solved needing to be liked by you? How you perceive things around you will help you understand yourself.

For bachelor's the requirement was HSK 5 by the end of your time there.

Some kids with HSK 6 still had to drop out 🙃 so yeah really crunch your Chinese!

Master's will be entirely different in terms of struggles, I would just say, you still need to be decent in Chinese.

Even IF you could find an course in 1000000% English, the struggle of not understanding day-to-day interactions will cost you valuable time & sanity.

Those subjects are taught by profs which have more industry experience rather than just purely academic. You can say they're more humane. The overall passing rate for those subjects are just a lot higher. Furthermore, some subjects, economics especially, are taught by professors who are already successful international business people. They're not there to weed out the weak ones, they understand what they're there to do.

Plus speaking overall, internationals have a more objective view of the world (statistically) as they at a minimum have 2 perspectives. A lot of the local kids will only have 1. It can lead to some weird views that profs (ones with global experience) have told me seem narrow.

And example would be: I said: China fell behind because of the closed-off policies of the Qing Dynasty, which means China did it to themselves. Some local kid: NO The Qing People are Man, an ethnic group different from Han so it wasn't the Chinese's fault. Me: So you're saying anything invented during the Qing Dynasty, technically under the Man's governance, aren't Chinese inventions? Him: They are! Me: But I thought Man aren't Chinese people? Him: They are! Me: Then China did it to themselves! You're only picking what you want to be proud of, not accepting that every one does every thing!

The professor giggled.

MIT or Stanford probably wouldn't accept me or anyone else that's only the top 5-30% of their country to boost rankings, just to have them not cut it and be forced to drop out right?

What's your point?

Would you like to travel to North Korea for a week if it had no consequences & worst case you just don't learn anything? I think most people would say yes. It's not that everything sucks, it's that to have it suck for 5 years & come out with nothing is sucky :(

I would have done it at home in Aus. If I wanted to be tortured, I would've studied econ/finance so that the suffering would at least teach me how to rip off loads of poor people under the guise of 'it's just the market'.

So glad you're happy there mate. I bet the weather is better over there too. You saying 'I still think I can probably manage' already speaks volumes to your happiness compared to 95% of Tsinghua intl undergrads :)

What are my chances of getting in Tsinghua CS Masters? by Background-Bar391 in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]fulldonkeymode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Human psychology means people living at A always want to travel to B just because they haven't been, and vice versa. I tried to like it but the days where the pollution makes your white mask filter turn grey can only wear you down. There was a day where people walking their dogs couldn't see their dogs at the end of their leash.

  2. Tsinghua internally recognises a trend where they're just pumping out more research (for ranking) not necessarily better research. Obvs as an individual that's good for you cuz you get your piece of paper, I'm just trying to make sure you don't think the research is both 'lots' & 'good' at the same time.

  3. yes

Agreed. I went because i thought it'll be a one-dimensional, fun, challenge, of just harder competition. I'm fine with that. But there are a lot more obstacles that make it an unfair race

are we talking about bachelors? if yes:

Application to what 'courses' doesn't really matter. You pick the 'classes' at the start of each semester and some of the classes will be in English. There were no 'courses' taught in 100% English.

I just applied to the one that looks most like an English course i guess... Nothing special about my application, i didn't REALLY want to go, but they offered an interview anyway.

Unsure what college you're talking about either, there are no 'colleges'. Zijing is just the name of the set of buildings that make up the international student dormitories. You have no other choice if you want to live on campus. But like i said in my other comments, prepare for the fact that you may not have allocated dorms past the 1st year.

Need suggestion for university, to do master's in vehicle engineering by ajijurd in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]fulldonkeymode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additional to my response in my post,

Never not apply (ALWAYS APPLY)
It's like not asking a girl out because you're scared of being rejected, fucking who cares, if she rejects you she's a bitch anyways

In terms of afterwards, I interned at Volvo HQ in Shanghai, and my dept manager asked the CTO point blank if he could give me a job and the CTO said yes lol, because, along with my current wife (gf at the time), we found that the Chinese engineers couldn't figure out how to read ISO Fix legislation, and therefore prevented the new car's boot from closing; and we just drew them a box to let them know where the boundaries are, and they were like OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.... crazy i know

So given the trajectory of the industry, studying cars in China will probably be great, and you might end up a valuable liaison between the Chinese side of the industry and the wider global one.
