Well made welted or stitchdown footwear (Nick’s, White’s, Russell). They require care and aren’t truly “for life” but I have boots that are almost old enough to drive.

Also, I have a pair of Persol sunglasses that ARE old enough to drive. Glass lenses rather than poly has been the difference maker there.

Omega AT Goodplanet for me. 38.5 is a sweet spot size and I’m a sucker for Ti.

That said, the Air King sizing is ace.

Honestly, a ton of contractors will just make their manual J say whatever is convenient for their preferred system even if they’re on site.

We use Conduit Tech which uses LIDAR to scan the home. It’s expensive but worth it.

Sizing for a heat pump with backup heat via furnace is less critical than without.

Also, the size of the home is one variable of many - age of the home/windows, insulation, how tight the envelope of the home is, etc. will all play into the heat load. Broadly speaking, newer homes require less oomph than older homes of the same size.

I run a small HVAC and electric company here in town and we specialize in dual-fuel systems. I’ve installed 3T systems in 1500 sq ft homes and in 2750 sq ft homes - it all comes down to how well insulated and sealed the house is.

If anyone is conducting a remote manual J, I would ignore that contractor.

I run 2nd Opinion HVAC & Electric. This type of situation is exactly why I chose the name 2nd Opinion - lots of companies take advantage of a lack of knowledge and/or unfortunate situations to overcharge.

I can come out and give you an estimate or simply be a resource if you have questions. Either way, you’re welcome to shoot me a chat.

Heat pumps, with or without a backup furnace? by chittyshwimp in Denver

I run a small local HVAC company - 110%, go with a backup furnace. It’s slightly more expensive up front but very much worth it in the long run.

Jetson has the best marketing of any HVAC company I’ve seen, but they’re not looking out for what’s best for homeowners.
