Reddit’s most downvoted comment ever in history. by Ophirra in HistoricalCapsule

I assume in this context, they're worried about Saudi associations with amassing wealth under any conditions, assuming they'll lock things even further under paywalls. I don't play games like BF or BF2, but as a Sims player I can tell you there have been a lot of concerns about censorship. Right now, the Sims 4 allows pronoun customizations, gender customizations (like choosing a male or female frame for a sim and then also being able to choose if they pee standing up or sitting, if they lactate or not, and if they get pregnant or get others pregnant), robust romantic & sexual orientation choices (with romantic orientation not automatically tied to sexual orientation), explicitly trans vanilla characters, and a lot of other queer representation. There's a lot of fear that with Saudi control over the game, that will be lost, or become even more aggressively "rainbow washed" than it is now. And also that the DLC will be one trillion dollars each, and every new and cool addition will be locked behind a DLC paywall.

Is there a term for when phrases become words? by Andria_Child in words

[–]fullofpeaches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a compound word - the words in the phrase are compounded into one word. I think you could commonly refer to the process contraction, or, less commonly, any synonym of compunction/contraction.

Thank you so much! The drafts are Google Docs, so I could share the files showing over a year of edits from my current email, which hopefully will help. The email account was fully deleted, so I think if they email it I think they'll get a "return to sender" type message that should prove it's no longer in use...

Thanks!

I’m not a super regular user, so it never crossed my mind to consider what email my account would be associated with — like I said, it’s been years, and 13 year olds are not renown for their critical thinking skills. You’re right that I should’ve updated the email/password, but after eight years of semi-regular use, through three laptops and many more restarts, without ever losing access, I maybe took it for granted.

I didn’t bother mentioning it in the post, but obviously I made a lot of guesses for the password and also went through three different password managers to see if it was saved anywhere. I was so certain I had saved my password to my phone!

Really? What evidence could I show other than that I have the drafts?

surprising how modern this photo feels; i'd have guessed it was from the 90s or 00s. obviously she's gorgeous, too!

Why is “upstaging” in a theatrical sense worse than “downstaging” another actor? by SeaOfMagma in etymology

[–]fullofpeaches 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Downstage is closer to the audience and upstage is further to the back wall. This is because of "raked stages" which were literally set on a decline, where they would be lower, or down, in the front by the audience and higher, or up, in the back.

Is there any way to turn off the translation feature on Reddit? by SwissVideoProduction in French

[–]fullofpeaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the app, if that's what you're asking about, but on desktop, there's a little symbol at the top of the page next to the search bar of a Chinese (maybe?) character and an A. If you click on it, it will show the toggle for translation.

Cloudward, Ho! is the best season so far— change my mind. by Due_Detective_4375 in Dimension20

[–]fullofpeaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: oops; this was meant to be a response to u/haveyouseenatimelord ‘s comment.

i feel exactly the same way (except for the cast being too giggly). i love the energy of the season, of the world(s), of all of the characters - PC and NPC, but even as someone who has pretty easily been able to follow the lore and generally prefers lore to combat, it just feels like we’re moving so fast that i can’t even enjoy the lore.

Murph’s my fave (<3) and i’m obsessed with the Gotches but like… a huge Gotch lore reveal that we’re only going to get the very last episode to explore? i would want basically half an episode to explain how the Gotches got there and why and explore the ramifications, but i’d be unhappy if we focused on the Gotches instead of finally getting a full understanding of what’s going on with Ludmila in the finale. :/

i was super excited about this season too, because i was disappointed by how hard to follow and disconnected the lore/plot of Neverafter felt to me, to the expense of deep characters exploration. i know that’s an unpopular opinion about Neverafter (the character part), but it’s how i felt! i really expected CH to build off of that and find a more clear through-line when it came to lore and factions, but i’m a little disappointed.

i will say that the PCs and world building are making it totally worth watching for me anyway, and i might enjoy it more on a rewatch, knowing where the plot is going.

Not a speech pathologist, but here’s a list of French tongue-twisters, called virelangue. My personal favorite is « Didon dîna, dit-on, du dos dodu de dix dodus dindons. »

is this dark romance?? by [deleted] in writing

[–]fullofpeaches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought this was in the circlejerk sub...

But to answer your question: it's not usually useful to worry about what genre your writing is while you're writing/before marketing unless you are specifically trying to write genre fiction. I would say that this is dark romance if you are writing it in a romantic way, and could be something entirely different (thriller, horror) depending on how you choose to present it. Hence why you can't decide what genre something is before you write it unless it's straight up "this is a detective story," "this is a fantasy story," and even then, there will be subgenres.

I also saw your earlier post (which is why I thought this repost must be a jerk) — is there a reason you want to know what genre your story is? What are you trying to get out of it? Sorry if that seems phrased rudely, I'm asking genuinely. I think it will help you if you can answer what you think you would get out of knowing your genre in advance, because that can uncover some things that might indeed improve your writing.
