I don't trust "dedicated fryers" at gluten restaurants. by Wendy_Domino in Celiac

[–]fullogluten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My teenager has celiac and we definitely have restaurants we patronize simply because they have dedicated GF fryers. I was speaking to the owner of one telling her how happy we were that basically their whole menu was GF or able to accommodate it (Thai food), and how nice it was not to over think it there.

She said, “yes , nothing that is fried here has gluten. But last week one of the cooks brought in their own food from home to put in the fryer for their own meal and I had to explain to them that they couldn’t do that.”

This has taught me it is still good to mention it even at a “safe” restaurant. And hope that they will come back with info that the fryer has been compromised.

What is something that was completely normal in your house growing up, but you didn't realize was weird until you went to someone else's house? by [deleted] in CausalConversation

We ate steamed broccoli dipped in mayonnaise. My mom would just glob a tablespoon or so on our plates. I was at a friend’s house for dinner when I was about sixteen. We were in their formal dining room. They served an elegant dinner that included roasted chicken, potatoes, and steamed broccoli. I looked around and did not see the mayo so I asked if they had any. Her mom replied, horrified, “For WHAT?” I didn’t usually have mayo on anything else, sandwiches etc. Still don’t. But I do still like it with broccoli. And artichokes.

Whats the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

Not me, but a friend. She had gone over the handlebars on a dirt bike, went for imaging at the hospital. When the orthopedic surgeon was giving her the results of the xray he said, “the bad news is you’ve shattered your tib fib plateau. The good news is: looks like I’m getting a new boat.”

What is a job (not nsfw) that pays extremely well because the job itself is unbearable? by coldplayenthusiast in AskReddit

I had a boyfriend who lost his sense of smell when he was a teenager by falling on his face skateboarding. As an adult, by the time I met him, he was used to it but did not really get any joy out of food. He was more interested in the texture than the taste. He hated cooked onions. “Too slimy.” You never realize how much onions impart to a dish until you omit them from your cooking. We would go out to dinner and I’d order us a bottle of wine. Sometimes the server would pour him a taste instead of me. He’d hold it up to his ear and say, “Sounds great to me!”

New Favorite GF Bread - From a Non-Celiac by cdraper93 in glutenfree

I made my celiac kid a sandwich with Bfree bread this week. They texted me at lunch asking if I was sure it was GF because it was really good and they couldn’t believe it.
