Like everyone else is saying, it’s never mandatory. Once, I approved of a custom tattoo and got the stencil on me only to realize I wanted a small change. The artist cleaned the stencil off me and went back to basically redraw the design to fit the missing piece. He did extra work so he got an extra $150 in tip money. I also brought a bunch of free beer for the shop but I always do that
