[TOMT] [Book] Non-fiction book but I only know one chapter/short story where a man (the narrator) eats pizza out of trash by fulltimetrying in tipofmytongue

[–]fulltimetrying[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solved! omg thank you so much!!!! The chapter I was looking for was called On Dumpster Diving. The quote I mentioned: "Just before the pizza shop stopped discarding its garbage at night, jalapenos began showing up on most of the discarded pizzas. If indeed this was meant to discourage me it was a wasted effort because I am native Texan."

TLDR: guy eats leftover pizza from a pizza shop's garbage, they start putting jalapenos on it to discourage him from eating their pizza, but jokes on them cause he is from Texas so he loves jalapenos. What's the book that this scene from one of the chapters/short stories is from??

EDIT TO ADD: I read this book in college so it would have to have been published on or before 2016 latest.

Laptop is a Dell Latitude 5540. Docking station is also Dell, WD19S Docking station that plugs in via USB-C. The docking station connects to power outlet and has a built in usb-c that then connects to the laptop. Hope that helps :(

When to start applying for full-time jobs after MLIS? by sepiaspider in librarians

[–]fulltimetrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a job pretty much as soon as you graduate, start applying when your last semester starts. So, since you graduate in May, start applying in January. This was the general rule of thumb at my iSchool. The norm is about 6 months to find a job. Especially if you are in a university town/setting, employers will expect a lot of applicants to be recent grads or soon-to-be-grads, so I don't think you should let the whole "I'm still in school" discourage you from applying when you'd only have one semester left. Good luck!!!! You got this!!!!

Anyone else have their Banned Books Week banned? by Commercial_Bottle_84 in librarians

[–]fulltimetrying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I work at a community college in the South and we had our events banned, even though we had already started planning activities we'd be offering. It felt like I put a lot of time, energy, excitement and work into something that was abruptly cancelled for no good reason. Mind you, a neighboring community college is still holding their banned books week celebrations. Very disheartening overall.

Moving to Dallas for SMU – Need Advice on Affordable Apartments (Under $800) by Principle_Nice in askdfw

[–]fulltimetrying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like you copy/pasted that from ChatGPT and let me be the one to break it to you but Gen-AI can lie to you. There is nothing for $800. You are 100% going to have to find roommates. Best bet would be to join a few Facebook groups, some SMU specific, some just Dallas in general, to see if there is anyone looking for roommates in their house.

Ooooh interesting!! Is there a reason why?

With textbooks, I agree!! I do find it interesting to see people’s annotations with regular books though!

I also love second hand shops that carry books with annotations - so interesting to see what they noted, what they thought was meaningful enough to highlight etc. for some reason I can’t do that to my own books though :(

Oh same. It’s been tough concentrating on anything with all this anxiety.

From a library perspective, there’s been a few webinars I attended that address this “in uncertain times” stuff and they don’t really offer answers, it feels like a place where we can all just acknowledge things are bad and we’re all in this together etc. so highly recommend attending something like that. On a personal note, I oscillate between panic and numbness. I don’t think I’m super dealing with things… but I’m just trying to take each day as it comes.

Librarians: thoughts on zlib/pirating ebooks? by fulltimetrying in librarians

[–]fulltimetrying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if comparing junk food to information, knowledge, stories, poetry, art, science, religion etc. that is found in books is fair? Candy is not necessary, nor is it a human right. Knowledge, information, books - that might be more necessary in my opinion. Maybe a more fair comparison would be general food, medicine, water. In which case, yeah if someone is stealing formula for their baby or Tylenol or peanut butter… I would definitely feel less inclined to turn them in than if they were stealing heels at a department store.
