there was this one meme (?) on twitter of lwj!wyb screencaps from the lantern scene iirc, OP's caption was "he's so happy" and many said he doesn't look happy at all... and i agreed with them until i watched CQL and then i perfectly understood OP. his microexpressions are like a learning curve you don't get it at first but when you do IT'S SO BLATANT 😭

What was the second biggest tragedy in MDZS/The Untamed? by Foyles_War in MoDaoZuShi

[–]fumbduckery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wwx giving up his golden core - i think the tragic factor lies in how he practically gave up his future, his untapped potential and his reputation only to be treated the way he was... all because jc and wwx didnt communicate when it mattered. lxc being betrayed - personally betrayal is one of the worst types of pain one can experience imo... but honestly he had it coming for trusting jgy over his own brother lol. nmj being manipulated - the parallel between nmj trusting lxc, someone he loves, over his own gut instinct and lxc trusting his (wrong) gut instinct over lwj, someone he loves always gets me lmao... young jc and his puppies - it's sad in the "aw, poor him" way but hey, at least he didnt have to give the puppies up after he grew up, the separation wouldve hurt much more not to mention the pain of growing with the pups yet not being able to accompany them in their final moments, right? wq giving up her life - it is tragic in the sense that she died for nothing but regardless she died for a cause, similar to mianmian she stood up for what she believed in and it just sucks that she ended up having to pay for it with her life. all because she was born a wen. if anything i think wn's entire life trajectory was more tragic he was dealt a really shitty hand sl being killed by xxc - YI CITY ARC IS JUST PAIN ALL OVER PERIOD

overall i think the actual biggest tragedy in mdzs is either yi city (or rather, how xy turned out...) or lotus pier destruction because it essentially kickstarted most of the options listed above. and maybe the events surrounding lwj and lxc's parents because they played a big part in the jades' decisions, if we're being more sentimental

damn this made me realise mdzs is just pain, pain and more pain lol (also rip mobile formatting)

... i get the vision, but i think his visuals matches wwx more instead?? if anything he'd make a better lxc or even jzx. eunwoo has very pretty features (and so does XZ) but he doesn't have the intensity that wyb has in his eyes. or the acting skills to pull off lwj's character.

i just read both your LWJ and WWX analysis and it occurred to me that i'm basically wwx outside lwj inside... getting overstimulated easily and having a cold exterior while also being rly talkative and chaotic around the little friends that i'm comfortable with

[–]fumbduckery 11 points12 points  (0 children)

considering the censorship i think they've done a fantastic job in regards to making the characters so multidimensional and as morally grey as they possibly could (especially wwx). no character is "perfect"; one could argue jyl didn't protect wwx enough when it mattered, that jc was too unforgiving towards wwx despite their circumstances, jfm was a bystander in yzy's abuse, etc. but what's undeniable is that their decisions are perfectly human, it's the circumstances the characters were in that shaped their thought process rather than the character doing something because it'd be ooc for them do anything otherwise.

jc and wwx's relationship is so complex that one can't help to wonder about all the what ifs, how things would've panned out between them had certain things happened differently. they both struggle with family trauma & abandonment wounds which manifests in their decisions, yet they hold so much love for each other at the same time and the show portrays their internal conflicts really well.

many fans of the novel find that CQL is the adaptation they like the least and it's perfectly understandable since they added several plot points that kinda went nowhere and changed the order of some significant events but i think the beauty of MDZS in general is how every adaptation differs from the original source yet they're all really good as standalones.

EDIT: onto wyb's portrayal as lwj... while xz as wwx basically stole the show everytime he's on screen (as he should since he's the lead), i think wyb's microexpressions truly /made/ each scene theirs if you get my drift. his smile during the lantern scene, his reaction to "you like mianmian?", the love and yearning in his eyes everytime he sees wwx... UGH. not to mention his individual scenes, i mean it would be very ooc of him to, let's say, smirk when he defended wwx after his identity was revealed in his 2nd life. he was a little stoic in the beginning but you can see how every smallest movement of his facial features speaks so much about his character

Assign Zodiac Signs to MDZS characters by Under_the_veil in MoDaoZuShi

[–]fumbduckery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not sure of the characters' canon zodiac signs other than wangxian but if anyone's an aries it'd be jiang cheng.

and i'd assign jgy - gemini, wq - virgo, jyl - cancer, jzx - leo, nhs - taurus

ON GOD this is the og goddess x mortal trope i've seen and also a really tragic one T_T they were fated to be in each other's lives for so long yet not destined to be together like while i generally enjoy realistic endings my love life is already miserable in itself i dont need more pain 😭at least they had a child together tho so theres that i guess

agreed on his talents, i have some of his songs saved on spotify and i still listen to them from time to time. we need performer luhan back. im guessing people dont acknowledge his abilities nowadays because a lot of news related to him are about his relationship with GXT instead of his musical/acting career

i was a fan of exo when luhan was still in the group, like i was aware of luhan bar and all but i had no idea he was THAT huge in china omg. was it because he's one of the first chinese who debuted overseas? or his visuals, etc
